Former Fire Captain Arrested For Committing Lewd Acts Upon a Child

by ECT

Tuesday afternoon, detectives with the Placer County Sheriff’s Crimes Against Persons Unit arrested Gerald Norman Fogel, 57, of Foresthill at his residence. Fogel was arrested for ten counts of Committing a Lewd Act Upon a Child Under 14-years old.

Sheriff investigators learned of the abuse which occurred numerous years ago in Contra Costa County between August 2000 and August 2003. Working with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, detectives obtained an arrest warrant from Contra Costa County and a Placer County search warrant.

Fogel was a former fire Captain with the Foresthill Fire Protection District from August 2014 to November 2016. He is also a former Fremont Firefighter.

In a statement released by the Foresthill Fire Protection District, they stated Fogel was released from his employment in November of 2016 and has not been associated with the fire district since that time. His charges have also not been related to his employment with the fire district and occurred many years before his short tenure with the district.

“The safety of the community we serve is of the paramount importance to the District and we are committed to ensuring that employees who serve the community maintain the highest ethical and moral standards,” said the District in a press release. “This information regarding a former employee is very disturbing and reinforces the District’s new increased standard for pre-employment background investigations.”

Fogel was booked into the Contra Costa County Jail with a bail of $1,000,000.
