First Generation Farmers Opens Registration for 2017 Youth Education Programs

by ECT

Knightsen, CA – First Generation Farmers (FGF) is excited to announce this year’s
opportunities for Bay Area kids and families to get dirty and learn on the farm. With a few
seasons of field trips, summer camp, after school programs, farm tours, and ‘community farm days’ under their suspenders; the energetic team of farmer/educators at FGF are passionate about their mission to educate and inspire in 2017.

First Generation Farmers’ founder and 4th generation farmer, Alli Cecchini, recognizes the importance of kids being exposed to a farm environment- “Our local communities have a long standing tradition of agriculture, I was lucky to experience that heritage growing up, but
with farmland disappearing, and the steady rise in age of farmers in our country; kids have lost touch with where food comes from.”

The youth education programs at First Generation Farmers are as unique as the farm itself. Chris Wyse, FGF education coordinator pushes ‘interactive learning’- “I get to have so much fun with the little farmers that join our programs! I think the best way to connect with farming is to dig in and get your hands dirty, and that is exactly what we do with kids. We have a ‘ground, up curriculum’ giving kids and families the chance to experience everything on the farm from goats, sheep, and chickens… to composting, planting gardens, and building habitats.”

About First Generation Farmers
FGF is a nonprofit (501c3), community farm with a multifaceted mission. They educate and
inspire a younger generation of farmers through interactive programs while also growing a wide variety of produce on a fully functioning 13 acre organic farm. FGF is supported by generous donors and the volunteers who truly make it possible to feed and educate the community.
