Fireworks Ignite a 6.5 Acre Vegetation Fire in Bay Point

At 6:32 pm Monday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the area of Port Chicago Highway and Wharf Drive in Bay Point. The fire was reported in a field.

While responding, a large column of smoke was observed and smoke and flames picked up on observation cameras.

By 6:32 pm, Battalion 8 arrived on scene reporting the fire was on both sides of the road of Port Chicago Highway and that the fire was approximently 2-acres in side with a PG&E pole also involved.

UPDATE
Fire is contained at 6.5 acres.

UPDATE #2
ConFire says a witness reported someone setting off fireworks from a vehicle which then started the fire. No structures were damaged and no injuries reported.
