Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Told to Prepare for Possible Coronavirus Outbreak

by ECT

On Thursday, after a Solano County resident had contracted the coronavirus, the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District was told by federal health officials to prepare for a possible outbreak.

The following update was issued on Thursday:

Corona Virus Update

The health and safety of our students and staff are a top priority.  The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District has been notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to urge school sites to prepare for a possible outbreak of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). For the past number of weeks, the district has been working closely with Solano County Public Health to ensure student and staff safety.

Last night, the CDC confirmed the first case of Novel Coronavirus in Solano County. While this may be alarming and cause fear, we want to assure you that FSUSD is taking precautions to keep our school sites disinfected and clean. Our staff will wipe down commonly shared surfaces every day with disinfectants.

Students and staff are encouraged to frequently wash their hands, cover their nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing, and stay home if they are sick.

We understand the Novel Coronavirus is causing concern for many of our parents. Please keep in mind that this is a virus, and it is not specific to any single race or ethnicity. It is important to speak with your children about cultural sensitivity during this challenging time.

We will continue to provide further updates from the CDC and Solano Public Health. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with your school principal.
