On Thursday, Antioch High School was placed on lockdown for approximately 90-minutes after a report of a possible weapon on campus which prompted a response by the Antioch Police Department.

The alert went out around 10:45 am by school staff which also impacted Live Oak High School who was also placed on lockdown as a precaution.

By 12:31, after searching the campus, with about a dozen Antioch Police Officers still on campus, Principal Louie Rocha gave the all clear to students.

Lieutenant Desmond Bittner of the Antioch Police Department provided a brief update on scene saying that after a search of the campus, no weapon was located and all students were safe. He also added that unrelated to the report of a weapon on campus, an officer had already been on campus with a student who had an unloaded firearm magazine. No other information on that incident was released.

The school is back to normal operation.

Our schools should have moats dug around them, filled with water and piranhas. Entry should be via a bridge with high walls surrounding the grounds— high enough so that no one can toss something over them. A tall iron gate should be the entry with some very sensitive metal detectors to prevent sneaking in a firearm or knife. Kids should be there from 8 am to 5 pm …. just like they are at a job site. Going to school IS their job! A two week summer vacation is enough. They don’t have to be out getting bored and getting in trouble for three long summer months!
