ECCFPD: July Response Times and Calls for Service Increase

From June to July, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection Districts response times have increased from 6:54 minutes to 7:14 minutes as the call volume also increased by 25-calls.

During the month of July, ECCFPD relied on Contra Costa County Fire Protection for assistance a total of  34 times with them sending 47 engines. In return, ECCFPD  sent auto aid to Contra Costa County Fire 22 times providing them with 28 engines.

A couple of things we want to highlight is the District made two home saves and saved a local restaurant from full blown fires.

SUBJECT BACKGROUND

The staff report is to give you a summary of the activities throughout the District for the month of July.

Calls for service:

In reviewing the calls for service for the month of July there were a total of 565 calls with an average response time of 7:14 minutes. Comparing this to the month of June, the District ran 540 calls with an average response time of 6:54 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the District ran 6303 calls for service with an average response time of 6:54.

Looking at the response times by stations:

  • Station 52-John Muir Parkway, Brentwood, had 164 calls in the month of July with an average response time of 7:23 minutes. In June there were a total of 165 calls with an average response time of 6:08 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 1748 calls for service with an average response time of 6:10.
  • Station 54-Downtown Brentwood, had 123 calls in the month of July with an average response time of 6:02 minutes. In June there were a total of 98 calls with an average response time of 5:47 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 1345 calls for service with an average response time of 6:35.
  • Station 59-1685 Bixler Rd, Discovery Bay, had 62 calls in the month of July with an average response time of 9:30 minutes. In June there were a total of 58 calls with an average response time of 10:57 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 786 calls for service with an average response time of 8.44.
  • Station 93 530 O’Hare Ave, Oakley, had 140 calls in the month of June with an average response time of 5:54 minutes. In June there were a total of 149 calls with an average response time of 6:15 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 1801 calls for service with an average response time of 6:17.
  • Station 94-15 A St, Knightsen, had 17 calls in the month of July with an average response time of 7:50 minutes. In June there were a total of 20 calls with an average response time of 7:39 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 149 calls for service with an average response time of 9:12
  • Station 95- 3045 Ranch Ln, Bethel Island (closed 7-1-2012), had 40 calls in the month of July with an average response time of 10:46 minutes. In the month of June there were 28 calls with an average response time of 11:03 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 338 calls for service with an average response time of 9:34.
  •  Cal-Fire Station 16-Marsh Creek/Morgan Territory had 18 calls in the month of July with an average response time of 8:57 minutes. In June there were a total of 22 calls with an average response time of 9:44 minutes. In the calendar year of 2012 the station ran 161 calls for service with an average response time of 9.00.

Auto aid:

In the month of July the District received auto aid from Contra Costa County Fire 34 times with them sending 47 engines. The District sent auto aid to Contra Costa County Fire 22 times providing them with 28 engines. During the month of June, Contra Costa County Fire came into the District 33 times with 48 engines and we responded into Contra Costa County Fire 21 times with 27 engines. In 2012 the District received auto aid from Contra Costa County Fire 389 times with them sending 518 engines. The District sent auto aid to Contra Costa County Fire a total of 167 times and 194 engines

  • On July 9, the Board of Directors for Contra Costa fire approved a new policy to reduce auto aid to two engines per agency and a total of four engines across the county. This policy will go into effect once an operational plan has been put in place and the necessary changes have been made in the dispatch centers.
  • There have been two meetings in the month of July by the Contra Costa Executive Chiefs to discuss the impacts of Contra Costa County fire protection district’s new policy. The executive Chiefs are also looking at mutual aid commitments across the county to fill the gaps in the change of this auto aid policy.
  • District staff is currently reviewing all our response models and emergency recall procedures in preparing for the reduction in auto aid.

the guys are kickng butt and this is the only site who shows it. thank you for again providing us information. anyone happy with these response times needs their head checks and a solution is needed

Again, CONFIRE needs to stop sending engines to East County as we pay a higher tax for our service than East County does. We are supplementing them with our tax dollars.

What about the rest of the county supplementing your section 8 ? Everybody pays in one way or the other. We should all be thankful for even having a fire department. My big brother told me they don’t have to provide any fire service. So there you go Jimbo.
