Here is a look at what local events will occur to honor veterans at multiple Memorial Day Ceremonies in East Contra Costa County.
May 28
10:30 am: City of Oakley Memorial Day Ceremony
Join the City of Oakley at Oakley Civic Center Park (3231 Main St) for its annual Memorial Day Ceremony which includes a presentation of Colors, student remembrance wreath, performance by Freedom High School choir and a special address by Gene Stonebarger (Sgt. Army Air Corps WWII).
Veterans of Oakley Brick Sale
The Veterans of Oakley will be offering bricks for sale starting Saturday, May 28, 2016. You can place an order via their website, www.veteransofoakley.org or come by Oakley Civic Center Park this Saturday for Oakley’s Memorial Day Observance and visit the Veterans of Oakley booth. The event begins at 10:30. While there, be sure to visit the City’s beautiful Memorial and see the bricks already placed at the site.
Order forms are also available at City Hall and Stonecrest Lending. Watch for the Veterans of Oakley booth moving around throughout the city over the next 6 weeks. Stop by, say hello and pick up an application.
Monday May 30
10:00 am: Antioch at Oak View Memorial Park
In Antioch, the Oak View Memorial Park will host its annual Memorial Day event where they honor, veterans, police and fire. This year’s special guest speak will be Dan Helix. 10:00 am: Brentwood at Brentwood Union Cemetery
The VFW Post 10789 will host a program that will include the presentation of colors by the Boy Scouts troop 93, Heritage High JROTC, Music by the Liberty High School Band, Speakers, Iwo Jima Survivor Dale Cook will deliver his speech, Presentation of wreaths, Civil War Cannon salute Marine Corps Rifle Salute. 10:00 am: Pittsburg at Veterans Memorial
Join the Memorial Day Ceremony at 2820 Harbor St in Pittsburg where speakers include Tom Torlakson and special guest speaker Clark Strickland.
