East County Little League Softball 11-12 Girls Head to Western Region Championships

by ECT

Over the weekend, East County Little League Softball 11-12 girls won a spot in the Western Region Championship in Southern California putting them one step away from playing int he World Series Tournament in Oregon.

The team, made up of girls from Brentwood, Oakley and Discovery Bay, will be representing Northern CA.

This past weekend, they played in Chico where they went 3-0. The team beat Madera 17-2 on Friday night, followed by a 16-13 victory over Sutter Buttes on Saturday and then a 15-2 win over Natomas on Sunday. Previously, they went 3-1 in the District 4 Tournament followed by a 2-0 in the Delta Sectionals.

The team now travels to San Bernardino, CA where they will play teams from other states. If they advance, they will earn a slot in the World Series in Oregon and compete against teams from across the world.

Team Manager Mike Rosalez says throughout the course of the year, the girls worked hard to improve on fundamentals both in the field and in the batter’s box.

“From the start of the season, we worked on our defense and improving situational hitting to be in a position by the end of the year to make a run in the playoffs. These girls worked their butts off and through hard work and dedication they are now reaping the rewards of their labor,” explained Rosalez.

He also highlighted how the team chemistry plays a big role in their successes and both on and off the field they act like a team.

“The girls have been playing together for a few years within East County Little League and have a strong bond, which transitions over onto the field,” said Roslanez. “It’s all business on the field, but they sure have a good time outside of the game because they all hang out together. It seems like I have at least 5 of them hanging out at my house each week.”

He also credited parents for their hard work to ensure the girls were always prepared and committed to the team.

“I also want to give credit to the parents who also put in the time for both practices and games and helping make sure the girls are prepared and on time,” said Rolsalez. “They believed in the system and the structure to put us in a position to be successful.”
