East County Events: June 21 and Beyond

It’s a busy weekend in East Contra Costa County with Relay For Life behind held in both Antioch and Brentwood. The Oakley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a downtown event while our friends at Lumpy’s are hosting a car show Saturday. There are also multiple fundraisers Saturday which includes a bowling event for Quentin “Squish” Rios.

Here is a list of events this weekend and a little further out.

Lumpys Car Show June 21
Lumpy’s Car, Truck and Bike Show
Come join Lumpy’s Diner beginning at 10:00 am for good food and entertainment as they host a car, truck and bike show. The event registration begins at 8:00 am and the show ends at 2:00 pm with cash prizes, including the best of show which will win $150.

Oakley Dog Days of Summer

The free admission event is a family friendly event including your dog which will be held from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Civic Center Park in Oakley across from Norcross Lane & Main Street. The event will feature a kids zone with wrist bands $5, dog costume contest, food, vendors, live bands, beer and wine.

Schedule of events include:

  • 12:00 pm – Sucker Punch Band (Alternative)
  • 12:30 pm – Dog Costume Contest
  • 1:00 pm – Locked & Loaded (Country)
  • 3:00 pm – Basic Beat (Rock/Blues)
  • 5:00 pm – Love Handles (Country/Rock)

Brentwood Relay for Life
Event begins at 9:00 am where 56 teams and 516 participants have already raised more than $92,200 for the event. The event is being held at Liberty High School with Opening Ceremonies to begin at 9:00 am with a Survivors Lap at 9:30 and the Luminaria Ceremony by 9:00 pm. On Sunday, the Fight Back Ceremony begins at 8:30 am with the closing Ceremony at 9:00 am. For more information, visit the Brentwood Relay for Life website.

Antioch Relay for Life
Event begins at 10:00 am where 70 teams and 582 participants have already raised more than $62,200 for the event. The event is being held at Deer Valley High School (football field) with Opening Ceremonies to begin at 10:00 to 11:00 am with a Survivors Lap at 11:00 and the Luminaria Ceremony by 9:00 pm. Brentwood Farmers Market
The farmers market will run on Saturdays between March 15 through November 22 between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.

June 21: Bowling Fundraiser for Quentin “Squish” Rios
This fundraiser supports 3-year old Quentin from Oakley diagnosed with a brain tumor which has affected his vision where the tumor is located throughout his optic nerves. The tumor is inoperable because of its location within the brain and the treatment is 60 weeks of chemotherapy with a goal of preventing the tumor from further growth while hopefully shrinking it.

Art Guild of the Delta

June 21: Art Guild of the Delta
Bring your family and friends to see a fine art show of paintings, sculptures and ceramics by local artists of the Art Guild of the Delta between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Enjoy the art and the refreshments at CR Framing & Gallery, 700 Harvest Park Drive, Brentwood, CA.

The show will continue from June 21 to July 18, so if you miss this Opening Reception, be sure to stop in and view the art. Gallery is open Mon – Fri 10 am – 6 pm and Sat. 10 am to 3 pm.

Campaign Fundraiser for Antioch Councilman Tony Tiscareno

Antioch City Councilman Tony Tiscareno is hitting the campaign trail with a campaign kickoff fundraiser event at the Antioch Community Park (801 James Donlon Blvd). The event begins at 4:00 pm and ends around 7:00 pm. The event will include a taco cart, refreshment and musicians. The event costs $25 per person or $40 per family. You may also donate a higher amount to the campaign if you wish

June 27: Brentwood Chamber of Commerce: Poker Tournament
On June 27, the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament to help raise funds for then annual holiday parade. The event is located at the Senior Center at 130 Griffith Lane in Brentwood and the event begins with a Dinner Buffett at 6:30 to 7:30 with the poker tournament to begin at 7:30. The buy in is $65.

June 28: Brentwood PAL Fundraiser hosted by Chamon Kabob Restaurant
Chamon Kabob Restaurant will be hosting their Two Year Anniversary on Saturday June 28th from 2-5pm. They wanted to celebrate by giving back to the community by hosting a family friendly fun which includes face painting, balloon making, a police car and the highlight will be an eating contest. You are encouraged to attend and help support Brentwood PAL who will be accepting donations to help raise funds for the Brentwood Police Activities league.

Streets of Brentwood 4th of July Parade
The Streets of Brentwood will be hosting a 4th of July Kids Parade on July 4 beginning at 8:00 am and will end around 11:00 am. The event will feature:

  • Parade of beautifully decorated strollers and wagons
  • Contest in multiple categories for the decorated strollers and wagons
  • Face Painting
  • Balloon Twisting

Celebrate Antioch Foundation: Annual 4th of July Celebration & Fireworks
Join the Celebrate Antioch Foundation for a family-friendly fun event at the Antioch 4th of July (Independence Day) Celebration. Parade starts at 11 a.m. at 2nd and E Street in Rivertown (Downtown Antioch).

Afterwards, come over to the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds at 10th and L Street for a FULL DAY of festivities. FREE all day admission.

Enjoy a classic car show, live music featuring Bay Area’s own Ricardo Scales and many more, old-fashioned kids’ games, carnival rides, jumpees, demos, arts and crafts, food, beer and wine booths. Fireworks at 9:15 p.m. No food or ice chests allowed in the Fairgrounds.

The Annual Cityhood Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 5th at 6:00 p.m. at the Freedom High School Basin. Celebrate our 15th birthday with jumpies, games, food, music and a firework extravaganza. Bring your lawn chair and blanket to enjoy the fun. Summer Concert

Free Antioch Saturday Summer Concerts begin Saturday, July 5th

For the 10th year, the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch is proud to present the Free Antioch Saturday Summer Concert Series in downtown Antioch. Concerts will be held in Waldie Plaza, located at 2nd & I Streets, from 6 – 8 PM every Saturday in July and August. The downtown, river view location brings back visions of old fashioned events for audiences of all ages. During the concerts the trains passing through town add to the crowd’s enjoyment Concert goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, etc., as there is no seating in the plaza.

The concert’s major funder is the Lesher Foundation, along with support from the City of Antioch, East County Times, Republic Services, NRG, Clay Millias & Co, LLP and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Without these generous sponsors, the summer concert series could not be possible.

Bands scheduled for the 2014 series are all local, have played at prior summer concerts and are proven crowd favorites. The line-up is:

  • July 5th: Vocal Ease & the Boogie Men, Best Music of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s
  • July 12th: Frankie G & the Conviction, Blues & R&B Band
  • July 19th, PHD’s, contemporary R&B, Latin, Oldies Standards and Jazz
  • July 26th: Project4, Punk, Soul, Latin & R&B
  • August 2nd: Nicky Depalola, Dance and Rock & Roll from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s
  • August 9th: The Love Handles, 70′s, 80′s & 90′s Dance Rock & Roll
  • August 16th: Rodeo House, Today’s Country, August 23rd: Against Leo, Rock & Roll and Blues
  • August 30th and features Tuck & Roll, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

July 8: Discovery Bay Community Meeting About Aquatic Invasive Plants

Discovery Bay, CA –  On Tuesday, July 8th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Discovery Bay Elementary School, residents are invited to attend a community meeting regarding Aquatic Invasive plants. The meeting will be attended by Assemblymember Jim Frazier, various elected officials, and representatives from the California Division of Boating and Waterways. Biologists will be on hand to discuss the identification of new invasive aquatic species, and staff members from the department will be available to discuss proactive methods of management.  Delta residents play a vital role in apprising the Division of Boating & Waterways of aquatic weed infestations.  It is very important to report aquatic weed sightings by emailing [email protected] or calling 1-888-326-2822.
