This weekend has a variety of events throughout East County but the main attraction will be Brentwood as they host the Harvest Time Festival. In the evening, check out the Free Concert at Waldie Plaza in Antioch where Frankie G & the Conviction (Blues & R&B Band) will begin playing at 6:00 pm.

Here is a rundown of what is happening in East County:

harvest time

July 12-13: Harvest Time Festival
The free event (11:00 am to 9:00 pm Saturday /  11:00 am – 6:00 pm Sunday) is aimed at celebrating the farmlands harvest and focusing on food, family and fun. Activities anticipated at the event include contests, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, a beer garden, local food, art and craft vendors, and live entertainment. Located in Downtown Brentwood on 2nd Street & Oak Street.

Brownstone Fitness

Brownstone Gardens Bridal Boot Camp
Open to the public, this free event begins workouts on Saturdays from 8:00 to 9:00 am throughout the summer and into the fall. The series will be led by Mary and Brandon Collins, independent Beachbody Coaches. Participants need to bring a Yoga mat, towel, and water bottle.  Brownstone Gardens is located at 91 Brownstone Road in Oakley.

Oakley Memorial

Oakley to Unveil Veterans Memorial Sculpture

Community members are invited to the unveiling of the eagle sculpture which will be the centerpiece of the Veterans Memorial. The event will take place Saturday, July 12th at the Civic Center Park, located at 3231 Main St, beginning at 11:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. Come hungry. The Delta Lions Club will fire up the grill to prepare some hamburgers and hot dogs, donations will be accepted with proceeds benefiting the Memorial fundraising effort.

Attendees will be among the first to see the complete white granite sculpture and meet the artist, Scott Luken, and even see some work in action as he performs some of the final cuttings of the piece. The sculpture is a rendition of a bronze eagle monument established in commemoration of WWI, which stood in Oakley through 1976 before being relocated to the Antioch fairgrounds. Attendees will also get to take home small spoils or unused pieces of the granite out of which the sculpture was crafted.


 

Brentwood Farmers Market

Brentwood Farmers Market
The farmers market will run on Saturdays between March 15 through November 22 between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.


 

Summer Concert

Free Antioch Saturday Summer Concerts begin Saturday, July 5th

For the 10th year, the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch is proud to present the Free Antioch Saturday Summer Concert Series in downtown Antioch. Concerts will be held in Waldie Plaza, located at 2nd & I Streets, from 6 – 8 PM every Saturday in July and August. The downtown, river view location brings back visions of old fashioned events for audiences of all ages. During the concerts the trains passing through town add to the crowd’s enjoyment Concert goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, etc., as there is no seating in the plaza.

The concert’s major funder is the Lesher Foundation, along with support from the City of Antioch, East County Times, Republic Services, NRG, Clay Millias & Co, LLP and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Without these generous sponsors, the summer concert series could not be possible.

Bands scheduled for the 2014 series are all local, have played at prior summer concerts and are proven crowd favorites. The line-up is:

  • July 12th: Frankie G & the Conviction, Blues & R&B Band
  • July 19th, PHD’s, contemporary R&B, Latin, Oldies Standards and Jazz
  • July 26th: Project4, Punk, Soul, Latin & R&B
  • August 2nd: Nicky Depalola, Dance and Rock & Roll from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s
  • August 9th: The Love Handles, 70′s, 80′s & 90′s Dance Rock & Roll
  • August 16th: Rodeo House, Today’s Country, August 23rd: Against Leo, Rock & Roll and Blues
  • August 30th and features Tuck & Roll, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Antioch arts

Antioch Arts, Culture and History: Celebration of Art
Exhibit runs June 28th – July 16th, 2014 at the  Antioch Historical Society Museum. This is a Family friendly event – children welcome with an artist reception set to begin at 2:00 pm. The facility will be open 1-4 PM Wednesdays & Saturdays at 1500 West 4th Street, Antioch CA

Oakley Senior Center  Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Oakley Seniors will be hosting a spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser beginning at 4:00 pm Saturday July 12 at 215 2nd Street in Oakley.
Tickets $12 per person OR $25 per family, children under 12 ea FREE. A live JAZZ band, “Three of A Kind” has donated their talents and will be entertaining dinning guests. The trio features 3 local high school Graduate musicians. Congress At Your Corner: Jerry McNerney
Antioch, California –  Congressman Jerry McNerney will host a Congress at Your Corner event on Saturday, July 12th from 2pm to 3pm at Dino’s Sandwich Shop, 729 First Street, Ste. C in Brentwood. Rep. McNerney will meet with individuals based on the order in which they arrive.
