East Contra Costa Fire Provides Update on Pair of Vegetation Fires

Over the past few days, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District has responded to two large vegetation fires which burned approximately a 125 acres combined. Here is a rundown from the District:

Knightsen – Holland Tract

On July 4, the District responded to this fire at approximately 5:00 pm at Holland Tract Road at Tranquility Bay Road. While responding, the District received reports of people shooting of guns and fireworks. Upon arrival, the fire was estimated at 2 acres.

According to Battalion 5, the fire grew to 75 acres with damages to 1 tractor, irrigation pipe and dock casement. Estimated loss was $100k. Cause of the fire was undetermined.

On July 5, firefighters returned to this fire where another 44-acres burned and with the assistance of a CONFIRE Dozer and airdrops from East Bay Regional parks helicopter Eagle6, the fire was out. No injuries were reported on either day.

Byron – Vasco Road & Camino Diablo

On July 6, firefighters were dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire at Vasco Road and Camino Diablo which was sending a cloud of some across Vasco Road. Upon arrival, the fire was reported to be approximately 3-acres on fire.  In total, the fire burned 16-acres and they were able to protect nearby structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Good ole Vasco Rd where the weeds are taller on the county right of way than the private property.

Do we know if they caught the arsonists for these two fires?
