East Contra Costa Fire Battle Boat Fire on Bethel Island

by ECT

At 10:04 pm Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a call of a boat dock on fire at the Bethel Island Marina in the 400 block of Riverview Place on Bethel Island.

This location is just over the Bethel Island Bridge and an immediate right.

According to the District, when the first fire engine arrived they confirmed that they had a boat on fire and it was fully involved with fire through the roof of the boat. The owner of the 30-foot cabin cruiser lives as sleeps on board the boat and couldn’t be accounted for in the heavy fire damage. However, his vehicle was found parked in the marina parking lot. The challenge the fire department had is that because of the fire damaged boat sinking it wasn’t safe for them to go on board the boat to search for the man.

The plan is that the Sheriffs Marine patrol officers are going to secure the half-sunk boat until sunrise and then see if they can locate the man.

No other information was readily available Sunday night.
