Dunham and Somerhalder Promoted to ECCFPD Engineers

Last nights East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Meeting began with some good news as the probationary firefighters were introduced to the fire board while Mike Dunham and Sam Somerhalder were promoted to Engineers where a special pin ceremony was performed.

The probationary firefighters and newly promoted engineers were also presented with a certificate from Assemblyman Jim Frazier’s office as Board President Joel Bryant called this ceremony “a great privilege”.

Operational Report

Calls for service increased by 42 between April and March. The District  ran a total of 507 calls with an average response time of 7:10 minutes—the response time increased by 9-seconds while during the calendar year, the average response time is 6:54.

According to the Chief Henderson, May has already been extremely busy with 3 residential fires, 2 major auto accidents, and vegetation fires. They are already seeing the benefits of Station 54 being re-opened.

AMR Housing:

The Board voted to approve the staffs recommendation with a 9-1 vote (Morgan being no)

  1.  Housing for the Quick Response Vehicles remains status quo through the end of the current contract which is set to expire December 31, 2015.
  2. The District takes an active role in the current EMS study being conducted by Contra Costa County.
  3. The District takes an active role in the RFP process for the new emergency medical transport contract with Contra Costa County.

Subcommittees

The board will finalize its policy on creating subcommittees for Budget/Finance, Community Outreach/Public Education and an ad-hoc committee for future service models. The Board also selected its members on each committee.

Disposition of Surplus District Property

Finalized this policy 10-0 with a few minor edits which now provide guidance to potential buyers of how the District disposes of its assets. This policy covers equipment, personal property, and real estate.  It also includes sales, trade-ins, donations, and disposal of junk.
