DOW Walk for Water

by ECT

A nice FREE family event is being this weekend to held to raise awareness of the fact that one billion people in our world do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. In fact, women and children must walk an average of 6 km for their daily water. Come walk 6km in their shoes, learn about our local water issues, conservation tips and experience the Wetlands habitat.

PITTSBURG, CA – September 24, 2012

Most in our area are used to simply turning on the tap if they need a drink of water. However, for millions around the world, water is not easily accessible. In an effort to bring awareness to the need for safe drinking water, Dow is hosting a Walk for Water. Participants are invited to walk six kilometers (about 3.7 miles) – the average distance most women and children must walk each day to obtain water for their daily use – and learn about global water issues as well as what we can do locally to conserve and protect our Delta.

The 6K Walk taking place at The Dow Wetlands Preserve, including more than 20 exhibitors, will feature local water issues, live animals and giant insects, boat rides on the Beaver Pond, free snacks and water, lots of kids’ activities and more. The first 500 will receive free drawstring knapsacks. Bring the family (no pets please), bring a picnic, and enjoy the award-winning Wetlands while learning more about the global water crisis. The entire event is free.
