DeSaulnier to Continue as Chair of Senate Transportation and Housing Committee

December 21, 2012

Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) today was nominated by Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) to continue as Chair of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee.

“It is an honor to continue as Chair of the Transportation and Housing Committee,” DeSaulnier said.  “As Chair, I will ensure that there is greater accountability on the state’s transportation infrastructure projects. We need transportation systems that help people get where they need to go effectively and efficiently. I will focus on supporting smart, pragmatic transportation and housing policy that is sensible and within the means of our budget.”

The Transportation and Housing Committee’s jurisdiction includes legislation affecting the Department of Transportation and the Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as the state’s transportation systems. The committee also reviews bills relating to housing and community development, including those that affect state housing programs for low- and moderate-income families, housing elements and land use approvals for housing developments, building codes and standards, and enterprise zones.

DeSaulnier’s chairmanship will be formally considered for adoption by the Senate Rules Committee when it meets the week of January 7, 2013.
