Here is a look at this weekends events in East Contra Costa with several holiday themed events for all to enjoy.

December 4: Brentwood Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration
IMG_6179The City of Brentwood invites you to attend this years celebration at City Park in Downtown Brentwood beginning at 6:00 pm on Friday December 4.

Festivities include music, singing and a visit from Santa Claus, followed at 7 p.m. by the official lighting of the Christmas tree.  This “holiday happening” is sponsored by the City of Brentwood and the Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee (BANC).

The event is expected to be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at City Park & Brentwood Community Center, 710 Second Street, Brentwood, CA, 94513


December 5: Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup

IMG_6035The Antioch Police Department announced the 66th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program which is being held at Prewett Family Park on Lone Tree Way on December 5 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Volunteers will receive instructions and the equipment necessary to accomplish the goal. The targeted area is within walking distance. Excluding inclement weather, future

This is a collaborative community effort which involves active participation from The Antioch Police Department Crime Prevention Commission; Neighborhood Watch Program; Volunteers in Police Service;
community volunteers and the Public Works Department.


 

December 5: Lumpy’s Diner and Jeremy Newberry Toy Drive
Lumpys-Toy-DriveJoin Lumpy’s Diner and Jeremy Newberry on Saturday as they are hosting a toy drive along with a car, truck and bike show. The event will begin in Pittsburg at 8:00 am for the toy drive and then leave by 10:00 am for the car cruise to the Antioch location.

From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, the Toy Drive & Carshow will be held with awards at 2:00 pm—rain or shine.

December 5: DASH Christmas Boutique

Bark Bazaar before Christmas located at 2725 Minta Lane in Antioch. Hours are 10a.m. to 4p.m. Santa and Mrs Claus will be there for pictures; kids or furry friends. Several vendors will be on hand. If you would like a table, please call 925-219-0151.  Cost for vendors is $40.


2015-Holidays-WreathDecember 5-6: Livermore Hosts Holiday’s in the Vineyards

The Livermore Valley will be hosting it’s Holiday’s in the Vineyards, a two-day event, where Wineries showcase their decorated tasting rooms with special wines, arts, crafts, holiday music, activities and more.

Should you attend the event, guests are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to their favorite wineries. Toys will then be donated to the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Association Toys for Tots Program.

Although more than 38-wineries are participating, here are five wineries that I highly recommend stopping by and trying out based off wine, tasting deal, and vendors.

 


Holiday-DelightDecember 5: Celebrate Antioch Foundation Hosts Holiday Delites

Join the Celebrate Antioch Foundation as they host their annual Holiday Delites event in downtown Antioch beginning at 3:30 pm.

The event will feature a parade (2nd Street) with a lighted boat show on the river and an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Clause.

December 5: Oakley Christmas Tree Lighting
JoiOakley Tree Lighting 2013n the City of Oakley at the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 5th, starting at 4:00 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza (3231 Main Street).

There will be non‐profit booths with games and activities, choir performances, free refreshments and more. Santa Claus will be on hand to visit and pose for photos. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the moment.

The 30ʹ Christmas tree in front of City Hall will be illuminated at approximately 6:00 p.m

 


 

December 5: Discovery Bay Parade of Lights
The 13th Annual Discovery Bay Parade of Lights will be held December 5 which includes a Christmas Tree lighting after the parade–in the shopping center.


 

December 6: Antioch Animal Services Hosts Happy Howl-a-Days

Antioch-Happy-HowladaysHowl-A-Day Photos with Mrs. Claus and McGruff the Crime Dog will take place at Antioch Animal Services on Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 11am to 3pm at 300 L Street, Antioch.

***As always this event is FREE and open to the Public!***

So come on down, bring your camera and take a photo with Mrs. Claus and McGruff! We will have treats, refreshments and candy canes! All pets must be on a leash and well behaved to take a photo with Mrs. Claus or McGruff!

Please consider bringing cleaning supplies for the Animal Shelter as a year end holiday donation.

Also, all pet adoptions are $17 to a qualified Forever Home for the rest of 2015 thanks to the Friends of Animal Services! Please come on down and give one of our dogs or cats a Forever Home for the Howl-A-Days!


Holliday LightsDecember 6: Tree of Lights 2015
Hospice East Bay invites the public to participate in the 29th Annual Tree of Lights ceremonies that are held in Contra Costa County throughout November and December.

The ceremonies provide a way for community members to honor the lives of their friends and loved ones. Everyone is invited to participate in the events which include music, poetry, remembrances by family members and hospice staff, and the special moment when the trees light up.

By dedicating a Memorial Light for a minimum gift of $25, you can honor someone you love while directly supporting end-of-life patient care. Memorial donors of $100 and higher will have the option to have their names listed in the lighting ceremony program of their choice. Event sponsorships start at $250.

Funds raised allow Hospice East Bay to provide essential programs and services such as the Vigil Program which ensures no one has to die alone, the Bridge Program for grieving children and adolescents and Bruns House, our inpatient hospice facility in Alamo.

Steve GlazerDecember 8: Senator Steve Glazer Holiday Open House

Join Senator Steve Glazer at his East Contra Costa County Office for his Holiday Open House where you can meet your neighbors and bring ideas to better community while learning about new laws that will affect California’s.

The event is being held Tuesday, December 8 from 4-6pm at 420 West Third Street in Antioch.


December 8: Pack for Our Troops
Shop-for-troopsPlease join Brentwood Auto Parts, Operation Creekside and the VFW in putting together care package for our troops.

  • When: Tuesday, December 8th @ 6:00pm
  • Where: Veterans Hall – 757 1st St in Brentwood

Volunteers are needed to participate in the pack, all ages are welcome to help. If you are unable to help pack the care packages, you can make a donation.

Any donations will be accepted. They are also sending packages to the military K9 that are deployed, so please also think of dog treats, toys, and food.

No time to shop, no worries! Monetary donations will be accepted as well. To ship these packages, it costs $15.90 for each package. Last year we shipped 130, we hope to do the same or more. With your help, I am confident we can make this happen.

December 12: Kiwanis Club 39th Annual Holiday Run and Walk

IMG_2973The Kiwanis Club of the Delta is pleased to announce the 39th annual Holiday Run and Walk for Health.

This event helps promote and build a healthy community –starting with our youth! Families, friends, community groups, and schools are encouraged to participate! The top three schools at each grade level (elementary, middle and high school) with the largest number of participants will earn awards.

Individual prizes will also be presented. Proceeds from the event benefit local schools, youth, and libraries! Last year alone, the event raised $10,000 to support local charitable needs.

This year’s Holiday Run and Walk for Health will take place Saturday, December 12th at the Contra Loma Regional Park.

Registration is now open at WWW.HOLIDAYRUN.ORG. Register early and receive a discount of $5.00 for an individual and $10.00 per family.


December 12: Oakley Breakfast with Santa
Don’t miss your chance to see Santa on Saturday, December 12th at 10:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers (3231 Main St). Santa will be taking time out of his busy schedule to join us for breakfast and visit with children. The continental breakfast will include pastries, fruit, juice, milk, and coffee.

Children only, can also expect to receive a small gift from Santa. Parents may bring cameras to capture the special moment. Pre‐registration is required and space is limited.

December 12:  Wreaths Across America 2015
For the first time the Union Cemetery in Brentwood will be participating in Wreaths Across America Wreath Laying Ceremony on Saturday, December 12 at 9AM.

This ceremony is coordinated by Anne Loucks Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution with support of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 10789 and the Union Cemetery.  The event is open to the public.  We hope to be able to place wreaths on all 300 veterans’ graves.  Wreaths are ordered from Wreaths Across America located in Maine and are delivered the day before the ceremony.  We are reaching out to the community to purchase a wreath(s) to donate.

Anne Loucks Chapter, NSDAR and VFW Post 10789 are participating as fundraising groups (all funds will be used for purchasing wreaths).  Wreaths can be purchased directly through wreathsacrossamerica.org and VFW Post 10789 (www.vfw10789.org), Commander Steve Todd (415) 722-0923.  You can also contact location coordinator Diane McLean at (925) 858-9075 for more information.


December 12: Pittsburg Holiday Parade
Santa will arrive in Pittsburg on Saturday, Dec. 12th during the City’s annual Holiday Parade. The Parade which will step off at 11:00 am will proceed down Railroad Avenue from 8th St. to 4th St. with the Pittsburg High School Marching Show Band escorting Santa down Railroad Avenue.

If you or your group would like to participate in this year’s parade, the deadline to sign up is Nov. 27th. After the parade, from noon to 4pm in the Plaza, Peppermint Playland will be open for kids of all ages to enjoy crafts, Jumpy Houses, a Magic Show, a Holiday Boutique and visits with Santa.

Dec 12: BDelta-Tactical-Dec-Adasic Handgun Training Course

Delta Tactical Training Group announced a series of upcoming beginner handgun training courses starting this Saturday and will run through January. This class is designed to help civilians become more familiar with firearms. Classes are $120 + $10 range fee.
