Contra Costa Democrats Endorse Supervisor Federal Glover, Split in District 3 Race

by ECT

On Tuesday, the Democratic Party of Contra Costa announced they have endorsed Supervisor Federal Glover in the District 5 Race, however, remained split in District 3 and will endorse after the June 7, 2016 primary election.

According to sources, Democrats flipped from a no endorsement between Supervisor Federal Glover or Martinez Councilmember AnaMarie Avila Farias to a last minute endorsement in favor of Supervisor Glover.

Meanwhile, in District 3, the endorsement became complex after the East County Democrats For Action (ECDFA) endorsed Diane Burgis last week.

According to Angel Luevano, President of the ECDFA, he confirmed the endorsement of Burgis and spoke in favor of the Contra Costa Democrats endorsing Burgis saying she was the right candidate for East Contra Costa County and District 3 to replace Supervisor Piepho who is retiring after her term is up.

At the meeting, Antioch Councilman Tony Tiscareno, who endorsed Wade Harper in the race, spoke in favor of a non-endorsement in the primary due to the close voting. Odessa Lefrancois, a candidate in the District 3 Supervisor race, also spoke in favor of no endorsement during the primary.

Antioch City Councilwoman Monica Wilson had the endorsement going into the meeting, but lost it in favor of a “no endorsement” because she was unable to keep the 60% requirement after she received 11 votes, Burgis had 9 with Harper and Lefrancois receiving no votes. There was also 1 abstain for a total of 21 voting members.

It’s also being reported that none of Wilson’s votes of support came from East Contra Costa voting members and her 11-votes came from other parts of the county.

Here is the Press Release that went out yesterday afternoon:

PLEASANT HILL, CA — Following weeks of deliberation, the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County (DPCCC) today announced its final endorsement decisions for the June 7, 2016 county elections.

County Supervisor Federal Glover, of Supervisorial District 5, earned the party’s coveted endorsement with support from 64 percent of elected and appointed Central Committee members. Martinez City Councilmember AnaMarie Avila Farias also demonstrated a significant showing. None of the other four announced candidates earned any support from members of the decision-making body.

“County Supervisor Federal Glover has served Contra Costa well for over 15 years, and we’re honored to stand by him once again,” said Party Chair Jeff Koertzen. “Nevertheless, we are gratified that multiple Democrats participated in our party’s endorsement process, demonstrating the strength of our bench.”

The Central Committee could not reach consensus on an endorsement in Supervisorial District 3, remaining divided between the two leading Democratic candidates, Antioch City Council Member Monica Wilson and East Bay Regional Park District Board Member Diane Burgis. None of the four additional candidates earned any support from members of the committee.

“Both Council Member Wilson and Board Member Burgis have fought strongly for Democratic values,” said Koertzen. “Monica previously served as Vice-Chair of this party and has spent years fighting successfully for Antioch residents, while Diane has shown to be a time-tested defender of the environment. We encourage District 3 residents to consider them both this June.”

The Central Committee will re-evaluate whether to endorse a candidate in District 3 following the June 7, 2016 statewide primary election and may come to an endorsement decision soon after election results are certified.

All the politicians endorcing each other is the same old career establishment that has to change. I urge voters to decide for themselves on a candidate and not because another politician endorses them. Not that endorcing is a bad thing. It just appears as scratching the candidates back to set up political favors when coming from a politician. Time for voters to do the homework and get a genuine local Brentwood representative for us in East County.

Anamarie is going to be a major challenge for Federal regardless of the endorsement.
The CCC Dems are a disfunctional clique that are out of touch with what leadership the people of district 5 need and want.

Who cares? I don’t pay attention to any endorsements.

I do, it tells me who not to vote for.

The Democratic Party in Contra Costa is out of touch with the voters and this shows. Federal Glover missed a year in office with a transplant and he is the best person for the job? No way!

In District 3, do the dems even realize anyone from Antioch is NOT GOING TO WIN no matter what party they are from. Sorry but its reality that anyone associated with Antioch has such a bad reputation right now why would voters in Brentwood, Discovery Bay, Oakley and other areas not vote for Hardcastle, Barr or Burgis? I know for me, I am not voting for anyone from my poor Antioch

At her very best Wilson is mediocre.
This is why the club that she served as vice chair for can’t even gather enough support to endorse her.

I really wish that “None of the Above” was an available option in all elections.

If NOTA wins, a new election would have to be held and nobody who was on that ballot could run again.

Unfortunately, NOTA would probably be a regular “winner”.

And in a perfect world none of us would have to exposed to Anon too and Unome, but unfortunately it’s the world we live in. Thank goodness they are trapped in our world, based in reality.

Nether one of them ever makes a lick of sense. Always on the batshit side of crazy…its the reason no one makes them happy. So ironic.

It must suck to be them. But hey, it puts a smile on Johnny’s face.

See y’all at the polls!
