Contra Costa County Public Works Urges Road Users to Exercise Extra Caution in School Zones

by ECT

Martinez, CA – Contra Costa County Public Works encourages all road users to be extra careful as they travel to and from school this year.

With a return to in-person learning and a major change from the past years pandemic induced remote-learning model, students and parents alike are looking forward to getting back to school. With the excitement of returning to in-person learning, children may not be fully aware of their surroundings as they walk, bicycle, or bus to school. In some cases, students may be going to new schools and be less familiar with the traffic patterns. That is why we are asking parents and other drivers to leave early, stay alert, and be extra cautious in school zones. The first few weeks of school can be extra stressful as everyone gets back into their school time routines.

Please be respectful of others and the rules of the road during this critical time.

The National Safety Council (NSC) has provided materials regarding sharing the road, including back to school safety tips, which can be, viewed at www.nsc.org/home-safety/seasonal-safety/back-to-school/drivers . In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers more tips for back to school safety at www.nhtsa.gov/school-bus-safety/keeping-children-safe. We encourage you to sit down with your child and go over some road safety rules and tips.
