CONFIRE Announces Multiple Fireworks Related Citations and Arson Arrests

by ECT

CONCORD, CALIF  – Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) today announced fourteen fireworks-related citations and two arson arrests by its Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) investigators in the month of July.

Con Fire investigators issued citations to 14 individuals for illegal possession and/or sale of fireworks and two individuals for intentionally setting fires that occurred in the county in July.

Summaries of each of the July arson arrests follow:

On July 6, a Con Fire investigator responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 2100 block of Railroad Ave., Pittsburg. Investigation of surveillance videos from nearby businesses showed a male suspect. After clearing the scene, the investigator conducted an area search and located the subject on Atlantic Avenue, approximately two blocks from the incident. The subject was detained and later arrested and transported to Martinez Detention Facility for booking.

On July 27, Amanda Wright was found and arrested in Concord on a warrant stemming from an August 27, 2020 fire. On that date, at approximately 5:48 p.m., fire crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of N. Bella Monte Ave. in Bay Point. After investigation, it was determined the fire was intentionally set and the suspect was identified as Wright. An arrest warrant was sought and obtained at the time. Wright currently remains in custody awaiting arraignment.

Con Fire’s FIU urges residents to help them fight the crime of arson across the county by calling the Arson Tip line at 1-866-50-ARSON. They caution residents not to hesitate on information that seems too little or unimportant to matter, adding some of the most valuable tips come from residents who were not aware what they saw was very important to the investigation of an incident.

At 1-866-50-ARSON, residents can leave a recorded message about fire-related criminal activity in English or Spanish. Tips can be anonymous, but all tips are treated confidentially. Fire investigators sometimes need additional information, so inclusion of name and phone number is encouraged.

I support CONFIRE, but I would be embarrassed to publish this weak report. They could have achieved this in 1 square block radius of Antioch in a single night

Those who set off fireworks which cause houses to burn down, should be arrested ……… no “citations” needed.
