Contra Costa County Overnight Power Outage Map

As of 4:00 am Thursday, here is a rundown of what areas are currently without power in Contra Costa County which is impacting around 29,493 customers.

On Wednesday, PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) start times were pushed back twice, first from noon, then to 8:00 pm and many reported power finally going off around 11:00 pm.

Here is a look at the current outages.

  • Lafayette – 4,277
  • Moraga – 4,512
  • Orinda – 11,253
  • Pinole – 2,373
  • Pleasant Hill – 2,105
  • San Ramon – 2,302
  • Richmond – 28
  • Walnut Creek – 2,643

Mt. Diablo saw winds at the summit as high as 75 mph gust in the 3am hour.

PG&E estimates that 51,000 customers in Contra Costa County could lose power. We expect the shutoff to impact over 120,000 residents of the County. The PG&E power shutoff event will affect large areas of the County, including Bay Point, Canyon, El Sobrante, Kensington, Lafayette, Moraga, North Concord, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, Pinole, Pittsburg, Richmond, San Ramon and Walnut Creek. PG&E notice: Rossmoor and Danville will NOT be impacted by the PSPS. PG&E expects to start restoring power on Thursday, October 10th with complete restoration possibly taking several days.

County Charging Stations (for mobile phones):
The County Employment & Human Services Department is setting up charging stations for community members during the PG&E power shutoff. These charging stations are available in the lobbies of the following locations starting Wednesday, October 9th, from 8 am to 5 pm:

  • 4545 Delta Fair Blvd., Antioch
  • 151 Linus Pauling, Hercules
  • 400 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill
  • 1305 Macdonald, Richmond

There are no scheduled public school closures in Contra Costa County for Wednesday, October 9.  For updates on school closures, go to www.cocoschools.org.

I don’t understand … Mt. Diablo saw winds at the summit as high as 75 mph gust, But yet 2 towns that backup to Mt Diablo, Clayton and Danville are not impacted by these outages?

@george – If I was leading the wildfire risk team for PG&E, and in my opinion, I would cut power to the areas that are the oldest equipment that would be most vulnerable to high winds. So if you look at the map you would get a good ideal where old infrastructure is and high risk of catching fire. The goal IMO is to reduce the risk of the company being blamed for and then responsible for billions in lawsuits.
