Contra Costa Clerk-Recorder and Elections Limit Public Access Due to COVID-19

Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, the Clerk-Recorder-Elections Department is taking additional steps to protect the health and safety of the public and staff.

Most Elections Division services continue to be available online at https://www.cocovote.us/.

For necessary in person visits to deliver petitions or observe election processes, etc., please call and arrange an appointment at (925) 335-7800. Elections hours will remain 8am to 5pm Monday-Friday.

Effective March 23, 2020 and through the duration of the Shelter in Place Order, the Clerk-Recorder-Elections Department will be temporarily closed to the public. In-person services will not be provided during the Order period. The Department is urging customers to use online services, submit documents or requests in the mail or call with questions.

  • Real Estate – Electronic recording by title companies will continue as usual. Documents can also be mailed to the office at 555 Escobar Street, Martinez 94553 or placed in the mail slot at the same location. Prior to mailing documents for recording, documents may be emailed for review and fee information to [email protected]. Requests for copies of recorded documents can be submitted through the mail.
  • Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates – Vital record request applications can be obtained and submitted through the mail or through VitalCheck, a third-party Service. Access can be found on the Clerk-Recorder website at https://www.contracostacore.us/. Authorized copies will require online authentication or a completed sworn statement (notarized). Requests can be mailed to 555 Escobar Street, Martinez 94553 or placed in the mail slot at the same location.
  • Marriage Licenses and Ceremonies – No new marriage licenses will be issued during the Order period. Existing reservations for ceremonies will be honored, but no new reservations will be made until the Order is lifted. Call 925-335-7908 if you have questions.
