Most people chose to tread the delicate line between life and death as concernedly as possible, carefully balancing between two paradigms, despite the inescapable understanding one is always sacrificed for the other.

Today we pay our respects in honoring the legacy of one such man who followed the call.
Sergeant Scott Lunger chose to protect others despite the inherent dangers he faced each day he set out to perform this good work and uphold right. He was 48 years old, a father of two, and a 15 year veteran with the Hayward Police Department. Scott lived in Brentwood, where he was well respected and loved.
He held the line until he breathed in and exhaled his last breath during the early morning hours of July 22, 2015. At 3:15 AM, that fateful Wednesday, Sergeant Lunger and another officer had conducted an enforcement stop on a Chevy Silverado that had been swerving erratically. The driver unexpectedly opened fire on Sergeant Lunger, who was mortally wounded as he approached the truck.
Today those of us who wish to honor his sacrifice form a long line that seemingly stretches in precession from Alameda County to Contra Costa County. Yet, in absolute truth, this line stretches beyond worldly bonds as far as East is to the West, dissolves from line of division, and into the intended Devine.
