Letter to Editor: Open Letter to Those Who Are Anti-Police

by ECT

Watching yet another officer funeral. My heart feels heavy inside. There is an ache, a sadness and a fear as I watch.

To all the police bashers, to all those that call law enforcement officers derogatory names, to those that are anti-police. I pray that you never know the fear of saying goodbye to your loved one knowing they may never return to you.

I pray that you never know the fear of a phone call from a restricted number, knowing full well that what lay on the other line maybe horrifying news. I pray that you never fear a patrol car in front of your home, because you know that could only mean one thing. I pray that you never know the reality of daily life and death situations. But also I pray for your peace. I pray that you live in peace because of what the law provides you.

And I pray that you never again take law enforcement officers for granted. Because whether you trust in them, whether you dislike them, whether you uphold the law or not. In the end, when you need them, they will be there for you.

They will fight for you and they will put their lives on the line for you. They will put you before themselves, their families and everything they hold dear to their hearts. They are sworn to protect and serve. A value and an honor they hold with the utmost respect.

Just remember that while you go on your merry way, care free, bashing those who protect you.

There are families; children, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers living their lives with an underlying fear of the worst. A ‘worst’ wished upon to no one but a ‘worst’ that is all together too common.

My heart felt condolences to the family of Sgt. Scott Lunger May your memories be filled with love and happiness.

Having been in the East Bay for two years, I’m very grateful for the police here. They do a great and caring job with limited resources and often with difficult schedules. As an inner-city schoolteacher on the East Coast, I sometimes had the privilege of working closely with the police in guiding some of our struggling youth to more happy and healthy futures. Very impressive.

Hats off to the police for their superb help to the community.
