Concord Woman Arrested in Suspected Fatal DUI Crash in Walnut Creek

The Walnut Creek Police Department reports that a Concord woman was arrested Saturday morning after a suspected DUI crash killed one pedestrian and sent another to the hospital with major injuries.

According to police, On July 30th, at about 1:50 a.m., a WCPD officer heard a crash in the area of N. Main Street and Pine Street. When officers arrived on scene, they located a pickup truck that collided with two pedestrians who were walking on the east sidewalk of N. Main Street near Pine Street. The vehicle also collided with a cement pillar.

One victim was transported to the hospital with major injuries, and the other victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver, Briana Day (28-year-old Concord resident), was arrested for Driving Under the Influence Causing Injury and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated. Day was booked at Martinez Detention Facility on $300,000 bail.

This case will be presented to the District Attorney for review this week.

A felony DUI offense is going to bring serious jail time, especially with a fatal accident. DUI laws in California are far more strict than other crimes, and the cost to FightDUICharges are high as well. It is tragic how avoidable this accident was if the defendant chose not to drive intoxicated,
