Concord: Vehicle Strikes Wheelchair Killing 63-Year-Old Man

by ECT

On Friday at approximately 9:34 pm, Concord Police officers were dispatched to a report of an auto vs. pedestrian collision that occurred near the intersection of Willow Pass Road and Parkside Drive.

A vehicle traveling eastbound on Willow Pass Road toward Parkside Drive, struck a 63 year-old male in a wheelchair, as he crossed in front of it, outside of the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital but passed away as a result of his injuries.

The female driver, a 31 year old Antioch resident, remained on scene and cooperated with police. Drugs/alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.

Willow Pass Road at Parkside Drive, was closed for approximately 3 hours in order to conduct the collision investigation.

The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are being released at this time.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Traffic Officer Katan Nanthasiri at the Concord Police Department, 925-671-5096

“outside of the crosswalk” this is a huge issue right in this area. The staff of the health center are guily of it as well as the homeless, and students. I’ve seen them all walking down the middle of Willow pass dodging traffic etc instead of using the crosswalk. And some will even walk/roll out right infront of you without warning, and as a driver you’re not expecting it because there’s no flipping crosswalk. It’s there for a reason, use it.
