Concord: Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Vehicle on Monument Blvd

On May 5, at approximately 10:23 pm, Concord Police officers were dispatched to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Monument Bl near Virginia Ln.

The preliminary investigation indicated the pedestrian was crossing Monument Bl., near the Food Maxx parking lot entrance, and was struck by a vehicle traveling west bound on Monument Bl.  The pedestrian, a 62 y/o male Concord resident, sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle, a 2008 green Toyota Prius, was being driven by a 23 y/o male Lafayette resident at the time of the collision. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative.

Officers from the Concord PD Traffic Unit were called out to the scene and took over the investigation. All lanes of Monument Bl. were closed for approximately 4 hours.

It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol are a factor in this collision.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Hat Tip Claycord  who reports as officers began to investigate the fatal collision, a suspected drunk driver struck a Concord police patrol vehicle which was near the scene that had setup flares and cones, Concord police Lt. Sean Donnelly said.

According to Donnelly, the man attempted to flee in his vehicle after striking the patrol car, but was captured a block away. The suspect, a 22-year-old Concord man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and on suspicion of hit and run.
