Clare, Stonebarger Won’t Seek Re-Election on Brentwood City Council

by ECT

Brentwood City Council members Gene Clare and Erick Stonebarger have both announced they will not seek re-election this fall.

Clare said last week he will not seek re-election. He was first elected to the council in 2013 after serving as principal of Liberty High School and as assistant superintendent of the Liberty High School District.

On Monday, Councilman Erick Stonebarger, who is a 4th generation farmer, announced he will not seek reelection and instead intends to focus on his family.

“My wife and I have a little orchard outside city limits and we want our kids to grow up as we grew up, so we’re planning on moving there.  Brentwood has been a big part of our family since my great grandfather moved to the area in 1925,” said Stonebarger. “It’s been an absolute honor serving this community over the 9 years, I hope I served them well.  There were a lot of great people that came before me that set our financial structure which allowed us to make better decisions through some tough times.  It’s the communities strong values that make our town a better place.”

Stonebarger further highlighted that every person who spoke in front of the council made him think about their point of view and in some cases even changed his opinion.

“My biggest takeaway is in local government, anyone can make a difference if they choose to participate,” said Stonebarger.

Brentwood Mayor Bob Taylor, who is up for re-election this fall, had previous announced in February he intends to seek re-election.

With two open seats this fall for the City Council, Realtor and Planning Commissioner John Fink has already announced he will run for election. Meanwhile, Claudette Staton, who also serves on the planning commission is also expected to announce she will be running for city council.
