CHP UPDATE: PEDESTRIAN FATALITY IN MARTINEZ

This evening at approximately 5:18pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a vehicle vs. a pedestrian on Pacheco Blvd, at Wygal Drive. Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, a pedestrian (28yr old female from Martinez) had been struck by a Chevrolet truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel.

The female driver of the Chevrolet that hit the pedestrian was not injured, remained on scene, and was cooperative throughout the investigation. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of identity of the deceased female pedestrian.

In the initial investigation, the female pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk and for unknown reasons walked across the lanes of traffic of Pacheco Blvd. The Chevrolet truck was traveling eastbound on Pacheco Blvd and by the time the driver of the Chevrolet saw the pedestrian, the driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian who was directly ahead of the Chevrolet within the lane and collided with the pedestrian, causing fatal injuries. The driver was not injured and remained on scene.

This incident is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at (925) 646-4980. Thank you

I believe that same lady walked in front of my car on my way to work yesterday around 7:45 AM on Pacheco heading towards downtown. We were by the 7 eleven and a truck in front of me was turning into the 7 eleven. I stopped to wait for him to turn and the lady walked right in front of me, and went around my car. I looked at her and she looked to be spaced out. I made a comment to my passenger “is she trying to get herself killed”. Now I wish I had called the police to check on her.

The pedestrian was in the crosswalk. It just wasn’t her turn to cross.

That pedestrian was my daughter, Elizabeth Whittington. She has been struggling with addiction for years and this has caused many mental problems. She was easily distracted and got lost in her own head. We are trying to raise some money to get her back down to LA so we can give her a memorial service. Please visit my FB page, Dori Whittington in LA, if you wish to donate. Anything will help. God bless you ???
