Canadian Comic Charles Ross Brings “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” to Livermore

by ECT

LIVERMORE, CA – (October 25, 2016) – The Bankhead Theater in Livermore will be transported to a galaxy far, far away in November when Canadian comedian Charles Ross offers his hilarious solo show “One Man Star Wars Trilogy.”

Described by Variety magazine as “a gifted comedian with nuclear levels of energy,” Ross single-handedly plays all the characters, sings the music, flies the ships, wields a light saber, fights the battles, and condenses the entire plot of the three iconic films into just sixty minutes.

Ross’ production is performed with permission from Lucasfilm Ltd, and, with the first stand-alone Star Wars film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” due out in December, the show provides a timely opportunity to revisit the original stories in a unique and unquestionably unforgettable manner.

“One Man Star Wars Trilogy” will be at the Bankhead Theater for one performance only on Friday evening, November 11, 2016.

A native of northern British Columbia, Ross says he spent much of his childhood watching Star Wars videos over, and over, and over again. He discovered a passion for acting and, while at university, became friends with actor, writer and director TJ Dawes. The two developed “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” together in 2002 and it made its debut at the Toronto Fringe Festival that year. The show was originally intended only to run for a short time, but the hilarious fast-paced show became an instant hit and continued to fill venues. Ross was concerned when Lucasfilm Ltd. heard about the show and contacted him, but after they reviewed a tape, they granted him permission to continue to perform it. Continue, he has. Over the past 15 years, Ross has performed “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” thousands of times in 11 countries from London and Dubai, to Sidney, Australia. The show’s success has provided Ross with what he considers the best job description in the world: professional Geek.

“One Man Star Wars Trilogy” condenses the original three films directed by George Lucas, which began with what is now called “Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.” When the first film came out in 1977, nothing quite like it had been seen before. Subsequent movies expanded the story line, cementing its permanent place in popular culture, and sparking an ongoing passion for the films in the hearts of millions of fans. For Ross, the opportunity to play all the parts in one his favorite stories, bringing it to life in an original manner and celebrating it with others who appreciate it the same way he does, is a dream come true. Most of his audience are people at least a bit familiar with the films, some so familiar they can recite nearly as many lines as Ross can, but even for those who do not know it well, Ross’ engaging style and frenetic humor is irresistible.

In addition to the “One Man Star Wars Trilogy,” Dawes and Ross have collaborated on several other shows including “One Man Lord of the Rings” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy.”
