Letter: Writer Highlights Barr’s Campaign Bought by Big Oil and Developers

by ECT

Dear Editor,

In the past week, I have received mailors touting Steve Barr as an “open space” and “farm to fork” advocate, and the endorsed candidate of law enforcement. Frankly, I was surprised to read these rematkable claims.

Diane Birgis for County Supervisor has received the endorsement of the Deputy Sheriffs, Antioch Police, District Attorney. Mark Peterson, Sheriff David Livingston. She’s also endorsed by open space advocates like the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters.

Something seemed off, so I looked a little closer. Turns out these Steve Barr mailers were paid for by Tesoro, Phillips 66, Chevron and a coalition of big developers hoping to build track housing on the Delta.

Collectively they are  spending over $57,000.00 to take down Diane, bring crude by rail to East County and worsen the already terrible sprawl we have to deal with.

This comes just a week or two after I read that Steve Barr is under investigation by the FPPC for not disclosing large donors as required by law.

I don’t think we can trust this Steve Barr fellow.

I’m voting for Diane Burgis. You should do the same.

Being a treasurer for a campaign is a difficult job and if done right very detailed. I can forgive those errors and he will pay the fine. However, it is no reason not to vote for Mr. Barr as we have done. When he speaks before groups he knows the answers. Diane does not except for the very narrow field of interest she has. Mr. Barr has a wide range of knowledge and understands the county budget which Diane has not been able to answer questions on.

@Julio, can’t agree with your comment. I have seen them both speak and Diane Burgis runs circles around Barr. He looks uncomfortable and doesn’t really know anything about the district outside of Brentwood where he has muddied things up. He has a deplorable track record when it comes to the issues.

Ask yourself, why would retiring County Supervisor select Burgis over Barr? No one know the job and the two candidates better than the person that has been doing the job for 12 years. The sitting supervisor had every reason to choose Barr but she didn’t. To me that says a lot.

My experience watching what Barr has done over the last few years (nothing) on the city council and fire board has sealed the deal. I’m voting for Diane Burgis, because she is a superior candidate in so many ways.

Why would the County Supervisor select Burgis ? Easy, control, manipulation, are just a few things. We all know the control issue that the Supervisor has. Barr is by far the peoples candidate.

@Patrick, what “control” would a retiring Supervisor have over a new one? Once retired, the former Supervisor becomes a regular citizen. Maybe you know something the rest of us don’t know? You say “we all know” but you didn’t offer anything besides a blank comment. What I do know is that the current Supervisor has a lot of accomplishments and enjoys a tremendous amount of respect throughout the county.

Why do you believe Barr is the people’s candidate? The people failed to elected him when he ran for Mayor. He has failed the people when he was on the school board, city council and especially the fire board. If you want to defend him, name a single accomplishment.

Where does Barr stand on the issues? Where is his experience? He has already admitted by his actions and words that he is grossly incompetent and not fit for the job.

Between your comments and Barr’s failures, nothing has changed my vote and I will still vote for the better candidate, Diane Burgis.

I met Diane at a listening party and was struck by how down to earth and well informed she is. She knew a lot about Brentwood and the surrounding area and has a lot more experience on a regional level than Steve Barr. She talked about pensions, economic development, traffic and more, I was very impressed. I am troubled by the way things are going in Brentwood particularly with the fire protection district which our city councilman has spent a lot of time serving on. Why are we building so many more houses when we don’t have the fire services we need? That huge city hall was a waste of money. If he can’t make things happen for Brentwood how will he make things happen for the rest of the county. I think Brentwood and the rest of the county wins having Diane Burgis for County Supervisor.

Hahahahaaa!

OMG, Patrick T did you even bother to realize what subject you were posting on???? This is about BIG OIL putting out campaign support for S Barr! How funny is that??? Ummmmmm, that doesn’t exactly make him the people’s candidate now does it???? Myself and a heck of a lot of other voters have figured out he is the Developer’s candidate and Big Oil’s candidate, just like Jim Frazier who has been parading him around. What a couple of losers. I guess they both think voters are stupid. Well they got you to do their bidding. Hahahahahahahahahahaha. How’s it feel to be used????

Can you say control and manipulation? Thanks for the yucks, you really had me rolling on the floor laughing out loud!

Not so distant memory's Oct 27, 2016 - 10:53 am

I almost forgot what a creep he is. Does he not realize how bad he makes himself out to be?

I would vote for my dog before I would vote for Barr.

It was just four years ago that Barr lost his mayoral race in Brentwood. 64% of the people thought Bob Taylor was a better option. How can we now see him as county supervisor potential when his own community didn’t think he could handle Brentwood?

Now I see developers and oil fronting the bill for his campaign. Now I know why he lost four years ago and why he will lose this coming election day. We don’t need a puppet we need a leader.

And why does it say he is a mayor? Why do they need to lie to make him look better than he is?

I will vote for Burgis
