CALFIRE reported Friday that they have concluded a statewide operation aimed to prevent illegal fireworks from entering California.
Between June 26 and June 30, it resulted in 29 felonies, 165 misdemeanor citations, 25 infractions and the confiscation of over 48,440 pounds of illegal fireworks.
“Everyone needs to understand the dangers associated with the use of illegal fireworks or misuse of legal fireworks. Any person who starts a fire from fireworks—even accidentally—can be held liable for the fire suppression costs as well as property damage costs,” said mike Richwine, California State Fire Marshal. “possession of illegal fireworks can lead to a possible fine of up to $50,000 as well as prison time for up to one year.”
CALFIRE says it is taking a zero tolerance stand against anyone in possession of or transporting illegal fireworks and say each year hundreds of injuries and fires occur caused by illegal and misuse of fireworks.
Fireworks that are illegal in California are those that explode, leave the ground, or move about the ground uncontrollably. Illegal fireworks include items such as skyrockets, bottle rockets, and roman candles. Anyone caught with illegal fireworks could face severe fines and even arrests.
All legal fireworks include “safe and sane” logo from the California State Fire Marshal on the packaging but some illegal fireworks, especially those from out of state, may not forged logo on them. If you are not sure if your fireworks are legal, you can contact your nearest CALFIRE or local fire station.

Starting a fire accidently or intentionally with any kind of Fireworks is a crime as it should be

Cal Fire takes no consideration on a person’s mental status either. They just think anyone who starts a fire is sane and guilty. They are about to do in prison someone who has never been in trouble with the law and had a mental break because of mountain lion was stalking him and he started a fire to keep it away. I did not believe a person can lose themselves like that but I watched it happen before my eyes. A full-blown psychotic break. He does not belong in a prison. A guy who had a good job great credit and never raised his voice or hurt anyone in his life. Shame on you people, I have no respect for Cal Fire when they don’t have any respect for a person’s mental health status and their past history shows they have no criminal intent or history. I know it’s in the DA’s hands but Cal Fire is the one that made the charge.
