At 1:13 am Saturday, emergency crews responded to a vehicle accident in the Town of Byron where a vehicle hit a structure causing severe damage to both the vehicle and the Byron Café.

East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Engine 59 arrived to the scene, they found the vehicle that crashed into the structure, however, there was no driver at the scene.

Immediately, crews sized up the scene for safety and ensured electrical utility and propane gas was secured—PG&E also responded. Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol and Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office began searching for the driver who fled the scene. American Medical Response was also on scene.

During the search, CHP and the Sheriff’s office were able to locate the driver in a grape orchard about a mile away from where the incident occurred.

The driver suffered head and facial injuries and was transported by helicopter by REACH 3 to the John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek.

According to the Battalion Chief Report, the driver appeared to be intoxicated with alcohol. CHP is currently investigating the incident and have not provided the identification of the driver.

The Byron Cafe is out on the Byron Highway a few miles out of the town of Byron it is NOT ‘IN THE TOWN OF BYRON’.

Although getting reports is fine; the accuracy has much to be desired. As has been mentioned over and over.

Here we go, the Byron residents care more about the town border than information being provided. Maybe Burk should never write about Byron or all the fires lately which are labled under Byron which are not really in Byron. He can never please any of you people.

Byron residents complaining about accuracy? That is funny considering that last border debate.

If someone wants to report the news they should follow the protocol, who, what, when, WHERE, and accuracy and how about grammar and spelling. Professional? Not really especially when the reporting person has spell check at his disposal.

Can’t people appreciate those who are freely willing to report what is happening. Without being spell checked and criticized about total accuracy of it being within limits of any town…so to those who do, get a life,,and from all of us who appreciate the information given.. Thanks

Saying the incident occurred ‘in the town of Byron’ is misleading. Unless the car ran into the Bar ‘in town’. How about saying the Cafe’ is out on the Byron Highway. And, why was there no comment about what damage occurred? Guess free speech is frowned on here.

@Byron Resident,

Town of Byron is being used as an identifier as opposed to saying “responding to unincorporated Contra Costa County. According to the BC report, they state the location as “Community of Byron”. You are playing on words for no other reason than just because.

In hopes to put an end to this, the location in question is outside of Byron which is not a town (it is a CDP-census designated place). It is officially known as the “Byron Area” just as Marsh Creek road at highway 4 is in the Discovery Bay Area.
If you have any doubt or further comment, I suggest you check with the county supervisor for the area in question. The county and an agency known as LAFCO is responsible for the boundary placements. That ends the debate.

You do not know what you are talking about. We live on Marsh Creek Road East of the Byron Highway and the BYRON POST OFFICE WILL NOT DELIVER MAIL TO US BECAUSE WE ARE NOT IN DISCOVERY BAY. THE ASSESSOR HAS US IN BYRON. KNOW IT ALL. OUR TAX BILL HAS OUR ADDRESS IN BYRON AND OUR MAILING ADDRESS AS BRENTWOOD. I AM REALLY FED UP WITH THIS MISINFORMATION. WE HAVE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS!!!!!!!

Tim Sep 7, 2013 - 5:26 pm

Fed Up,

I’m sorry for your continued confusion. You should know that neither the Post Office nor Assessors offices sets city/town boundaries. More than likely, your location is miscatogorized by both entities and old outdated records. Only the County and the Local Agency Formation Commision have the final say. County district supervisor Mary N Piepho sits on both. You should contact her office for clarification. http://www.co.contra-costa.ca.us/index.aspx?NID=740
You look silly offering up the non-delivery of mail and assessments as your reasoning. Neither has jurisdiction or authority in these matters. Hope it helps.

some people are so picky….happens with quick reporting….I moved out of state from Oakley and I appreciate the up-to-date reporting of this site.. I get NOTHING, ZIP from CCT

@Fed Up, Road Safety Committee, Committee for Road Safety, and Byron resident… no offense, but you are a hypocrite. You are using 4-names to make it appear like you have a group of supporters–I checked the IP address and you are playing on “usernames”.
If you want to discuss misleading people, start by looking in the mirror. We are talking about a few hundred yards, again, Byron is the identifier, get over it. If you don’t like it, go read another publication.

Your the hypocrite calling a reader names? Shame on you. Unprofessional!

Tim Sep 7, 2013 - 11:52 pm

Byron Resident and Road Safety Committee Member,

Actually for starters, it would be “You’re” not Your a hypocrite. But seriously, I’m a bit confused. Are you also Fed Up?

Who called a reader names? Did I miss something? If you are referring to Mike B., the individual that runs this site, then your accusation makes little sense. He didn’t call anyone “names”. It appears he called you out for using multiple names which you just acknowledged. No crime in that now is there? He also said, and I quote “If you don’t like it, go read another publication”. Last I checked it is his website and his rules. One last thing, what “Road Safety Committee” are you a member of? I have attended many road safety committee meetings and don’t recall seeing or meeting anyone from Byron in attendance. Are you a self appointed member or did you just make that up as well?

The misspelling is sometimes in haste to report to us. If you folks want to check spelling go to ANY school or check out those other social network areas. I fear for our country seeing what is there.
