Brentwood Police Detective Jeff Agostinho was honored recently at the California Narcotics Officers’ Association (CNOA) Region 1 Awards Gala for the 2021 “Case of the Year”.

Agostinho, who is a member of the investigative unit and apart of the command staff, was recognized for his investigation involving the fentanyl overdose of a two-year-old infant. This resulted in a murder charge against the child’s mother, seizure of approximately five ounces of fentanyl and methamphetamine, and the recovery of two illegally possessed firearms.

Agostinho, who has been with the Brentwood Police Department for 7-years, called the recognition a team effort by the entire investigations unit.

“It is and extremely difficult case to investigate because any investigation with any type of abuse or death of a child is difficult. I don’t think we were quite prepared for it because nothing can prepare you for dealing with a deceased two-year-old,” explained Agostinho. “It was a team effort, I cannot take sole credit for it, each of us had a role. This award is for our entire unit. I am extremely humbled for the honor. Its quite rewarding because here we are as Brentwood being recognized among much larger departments who have some very good and experienced investigators.”

“The professionalism, tenacity, and thoroughness of Detective Agostinho’s work was noticed not only by his peers, but by the District Attorney’s Office as well,” said Region 1 Chairwoman Faye Maloney where there was a conviction and an 11-year sentence of the infants mother.

The CNOA is made up of thousands of law enforcement personnel, comprised of different regions, who provide training to non-sworn and sworn personnel throughout the year. Brentwood Police Department officers are members of the CNOA.

The gala was a 1920’s themed charitable event that benefited the Survivor’s Memorial Fund (SMF) and the Narcotic Educational Foundation of America (NEFA).
