Brentwood: Mother Sentenced to 11-Years After Toddler Dies Having Ingested Fentanyl

by ECT

On September 20, Brentwood officers responded to a residence where there was a report of a two-year-old child not breathing. Tragically, life saving measures were unsuccessful and the child was pronounced deceased on scene.

During the preliminary investigation, officers discovered suspected narcotics as well as drug paraphernalia in the apartment where the toddler lived with his mother.

After countless hours of investigation by officers on scene as well as our detectives, the victim’s mother, Genesis BARRERA GALDAMEZ (21 years old) was placed under arrest for murder, child endangerment likely to result in the death of a child, and possession of drugs for sale.

BARRERA GALDAMEZ’s then boyfriend, (a 27 years old male from Antioch) was also placed under arrest for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics for sale, probation violation; among many other charges.

It was determined through the investigation and an autopsy by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office that the two-year-old victim had ingested fentanyl found in the residence which ultimately led to his tragic death.

Recently, BARRERA GALDAMEZ was sentenced to 11 years and the then boyfriend involved in this incident is awaiting trial.

No other information was released by Brentwood Police on this incident.
