  • 245(d)(1) PC – Assault on a peace officer with a firearm.
  • 69 PC – Obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

  • 25400 (a)(2) PC – Concealed weapon on a person.
  • 148 (a)(1) PC – Obstruct, resist, or delay a peace officer.

The other two subjects that were contacted with Wright are from the Brentwood area. Neither of the subjects were cited or arrested. Two officers sustained minor injuries. Both officers were treated and released from the hospital.

Original Information

The incident occurred just after 9:00 pm Wednesday when an officer witnessed three adult male subjects smoking marijuana and consuming open alcoholic beverages in the parking lot of the Chevron Gas Station located at 336 Oak Street.

When an officer confronted them, the suspect pulled away and a foot pursuit occurred.

According to Brentwood Police Lieutenant Sal DiMercurio, the man was contacted in the downtown Brentwood area near Oak Street for a narcotics and alcohol violation.

“While the officer was searching him, the subject broke free and tried to run away.  A foot pursuit ensued and the officer caught up to him about a block away,” said DiMercurio. “The subject turned and began wrestling with the officer, and at one point was grabbing for the officer’s gun while it was in the holster.  As the officer was fighting to retain his firearm, the subject broke free and ran away again, only to be located about a block and a half away by another officer. This officer engaged the subject with a taser, causing him to fall to the ground.  As the subject fell, he dropped a 9mm pistol on the ground.”

According to DiMercurio, the subject immediately tried to regain control of the pistol, but the officer was able to take control of him with the assistance of several other officers who were arriving on-scene at this time.

A loaded magazine was located nearby that had apparently fallen out of the gun during the struggle, and there was another loaded magazine recovered during a search of the subject.

Police say the 28 year old Brentwood resident was transported to the hospital for evaluation prior to being booked into Martinez Detention Facility.

The Brentwood Police Department also extended a “thank you” to the citizens who were in the downtown area as the event was unfolding saying a number of citizens helped point out the suspects who were fleeing which police said was a great assist.

“The positive relationship between the community and the police department was evident and our officers are extremely grateful for the assistance and support received,” said DiMercurio.

Another POS off the street. Too bad he did not go out in a blaze of glory. Good job BPD.

Hopefully the DA will recognize this guy for what he is, a real danger to everyone in Contra Costa county. Routinely under the influence, a problem for BPD for years, carrying a loaded 9 mm., a reputed dealer of narcotics and steroids, he needs some time away from Brentwood. The DA needs to make sure he is charged appropriately and not being able to plea to some lesser charge. State prison is where this guy belongs. We almost lost a Police Officer right here in town! Think of Sergeant Scott Lunger should you have thoughts of leniency.

Not surprised by this at all! I’ve known him since he was a little boy. It’s sad to see him go down this road. The police should check out his dad’s house on Jericho court in Brentwood. Pretty sure their manufacturing some kind of steroids there. Definitely dealing drugs for sure. Sad to see this in Brentwood.

JK sounds like you got personal issues with people, be a man or woman for that matter and handle it with them instead of being some kinda snitch!! You shouldn’t make false accusations about people you apparently don’t know. To the rest of you pretty harsh I hope none of your family or you end up down the wrong road in life and mess up.
