Brentwood Police Officer Assaulted, Man Makes Attempt at Officers Gun

by ECT

The Brentwood Police took a 28-year-old man into custody after he tried to evade officers on foot and wrestled with an officer while making an attempt for his firearm.

The incident occurred just after 9:00 pm Wednesday when an officer witnessed three adult male subjects smoking marijuana and consuming open alcoholic beverages in the parking lot of the Chevron Gas Station located at 336 Oak Street.

When an officer confronted them, the suspect pulled away and a foot pursuit occurred.

According to Brentwood Police Lieutenant Sal DiMercurio, the man was contacted in the downtown Brentwood area near Oak Street for a narcotics and alcohol violation.

“While the officer was searching him, the subject broke free and tried to run away.  A foot pursuit ensued and the officer caught up to him about a block away,” said DiMercurio. “The subject turned and began wrestling with the officer, and at one point was grabbing for the officer’s gun while it was in the holster.  As the officer was fighting to retain his firearm, the subject broke free and ran away again, only to be located about a block and a half away by another officer. This officer engaged the subject with a taser, causing him to fall to the ground.  As the subject fell, he dropped a 9mm pistol on the ground.”

According to DiMercurio, the subject immediately tried to regain control of the pistol, but the officer was able to take control of him with the assistance of several other officers who were arriving on-scene at this time.

A loaded magazine was located nearby that had apparently fallen out of the gun during the struggle, and there was another loaded magazine recovered during a search of the subject.

Police say the 28 year old Brentwood resident was transported to the hospital for evaluation prior to being booked into Martinez Detention Facility.

The Brentwood Police Department also extended a “thank you” to the citizens who were in the downtown area as the event was unfolding saying a number of citizens helped point out the suspects who were fleeing which police said was a great assist.

“The positive relationship between the community and the police department was evident and our officers are extremely grateful for the assistance and support received,” said DiMercurio.

God Bless these officers!!!! They are the only thing that keeps us avarage citizens safe. If this officer got in a shot out he would be under investigation with everything to lose!!!! His history/every previous move, choice he every made questioned and under the microscope. His family would suffer, retirement and medical for his family at stake!! Luckily this one worked out. Won’t be long before the officers good luck runs out.

Thank you for showing up!!! Taking the chance and doing the right thing!!!!i know it’s not always a easy choice. YOU ARE APPRECIATED!!!! Stay safe. Keep the odd I you favor!!!

Officers go under investigation to make sure they’re not corrupt. Just because they have a badge doesn’t mean they can’t be psychopaths. We do this to keep our government in check.

C, officers do not go under investigation to make sure they are not corrupt. It is standard of after a shooting, to make sure if protocol was followed, what led up to an officer involved shooting, and whether the shooting was justified or not. Usually, during the background process is when candidates are screened for psychological issues, in your case ruling out “psychopaths”.
