Beverly Hills City Council Opposes LA County Health Order, Requests Repeal

This week,  the Beverly Hills City Council unanimously approved a resolution opposing the Los Angeles County Public Health Officer order that prohibits outdoor dining across the County and in the City of Beverly Hills.

According to the County Health Order:

To reduce the possibility for crowding and the potential for exposures in settings where people are not wearing their face coverings, restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars will only be able to offer take-out, drive thru, and delivery services. Wineries and breweries may continue their retail operations adhering to current protocols. In person dining will not be allowed, at minimum, for the next 3 weeks.

According to the City of Beverly Hills, they stated this week that citing a detrimental impact on local businesses and lack of scientific evidence used by the County, the resolution demands a motion be placed on the December 8, 2020 agenda of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to repeal the current Health Order.  In addition, the City Council is requesting the County focus on implementing restrictions based on data and localized to the area of the outbreak.  The resolution further states that all future Los Angeles County Public Health Officer Orders be based on actual data related to a particular industry, sector, or area and not be applied unilaterally to every jurisdiction in Los Angeles County.

The City Council also directed staff to explore the potential for the creation of a local City Health Department in Beverly Hills, rather than remain under the jurisdiction of the County Department of Public Health.  The Council also directed the City Attorney to explore legal action against the County, potentially in collaboration with other municipalities.

I used to live in Beverly Hills and moved once Middle Easterners started taking up residences there. Iranians, Iraqis and others from that part of the world got many long-time residents to leave that city. Now, some of this extends to Westwood and portions are now called Little Teheran and Little Bagdad. The film people moved to Calabasas and Bell Canyon or Hidden Hills. I moved to Clayton.

So, let the present residents come down with the Chinese virus for all I care. Most of them live in multi-generational groups.

Martin, that’s right. The grandparents, aunts and uncles mostly reside with the basic family unit. They pool their funds and buy a house and all move in. The majority of the houses in Beverly Hills are not grand mansions. Even south of Rodeo Drive, the house are usually 3 bedroom 2 bath structures. It can get crowded in there.
