The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported Wednesday that one person died in a fire at a shed in the 400 block of Shore Road.
According to Robert Marshall, CONFIRE Spokesperson, the fire broke out at 4:04 pm and fire crews arrived on scene where they found a fully involved shed that extended into vegetation and a fence around the structure.
“There was a lot of activities from propane tanks and other tanks in the shed causing explosions so firefighters could not safely get near the shed,” explained Marshall. “Firefighters focused on putting out the vegetation and fence fire and then it was safe to approach the structure where they put out the fire.”
Marshall said when the fire was put out about 30-minutes after they received the call, however, they located a victim in the structure who was deceased.
The fire did not damage a nearby home, but it did cause an estimated $10,000 in damage.
According to Marshall, the victim is approximately a 70-yearold male and they Fire District is currently investigating the incident and working with the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
