At 7:48 am Saturday, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to the 2200 block of Placer drive in Bay Point on a report of a residential structure fire.

While responding, it was reported that one person had fallen off the roof and was injured.

According to Battalion Chief 8, Jim Huntze, one person was transported to the hospital after jumping off the roof to escape flames. They had to climb out of a window on top of the garage and jump to safety.

Huntze explained Engine 86 arrived on scene and reported a large volume of black smoke and flames showing from a two story house.  E86 verified with the residents that all occupants were out of the house.

Fire crews quickly placed hose lines inside the house to bring this fast moving fire under control.  Fire crews worked very hard to salvage all contents on the first floor to save as much property as possible.

In total, 16 residents were displaced which included 7 adults and 9 children.

“There was significant fire and smoke damage throughout the entire structure.  Fire Investigator 20 investigated the scene and deemed the fire cause as undetermined,” said Huntze.

No firefighters were injured in the incident.
