by ECT

Sacramento, CA – Wednesday Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D – Oakley) named Michael Brimer as his 2015 Veteran of the Year for the 11th Assembly District.

“Michael Brimer has demonstrated unwavering dedication to our country in both his military career and his philanthropic contributions,” said Assemblymember Frazier. “Having someone like Michael to offer a helping hand to veterans in my District is an invaluable gift, and I am proud to name him my Veteran of the Year.”

Brimer began his military career in 1965 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his service, he was recognized for superb leadership and dedication to duty. Brimer’s exceptional work ethic earned him numerous awards, including the Army Meritorious Service medal, two Army Commendation medals, two Army Achievement medals and an Army Good Conduct medal. Upon his release from duty in 1967, Brimer continued to serve in the Reserve units of the Army, California Air National Guard and the California Army National Guard.

Upon his retirement in 1995, Brimer began serving as a Merchant Marine and continued to demonstrate dedication to the veteran community through his involvement with the American Legion. Currently, he serves as Commander of Reams Post 182 in Suisun City, and also serves as Area 1 Adjutant/Finance Officer, on the State Commission for Disaster and Emergency Services, on the Suisun veterans Memorial Building Board of Directors and as a member of the Solano County Veterans Advisory Committee.

“Each of us owe our very existence and way of life to our veterans who have done what’s been asked of them with valor in their hearts,” said Brimer. “Each one deserves our continued support, our encouragement and our assistance. We should never abandon those who have stepped up and served. Assemblyman Frazier has proven to be a strong voice for every veteran in this great state, and I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected by him to receive this recognition. I look forward to continuing to help our veterans any way I can.”

The California State Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee will hold an annual luncheon in Sacramento on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 to honor our service men and women.
