At 4:52 am Monday, Contra Costa County Fire responded to a report of a head-on crash on southbound I-160 near Sherman Island Cross Road just prior to the Antioch Bridge.
AMR arrived on scene to a vehicle crash with major damage and one patient trapped. Units then crossed over the bridge to the scene and requested the bridge be shut down in the northbound direction.
A medical helicopter was requested to the scene for 1-patient while AMR transported another patient to a local hospital.
By 5:34 am, patient extrication was complete and the patient was being transported to the KMART parking lot where the medical helicopter had landed for patient transport.
By 5:45 am, CONFIRE units became available at scene and the patient was being transported with major injuries.
