The City of Pittsburg announced Friday that Steve Albanese has been sworn in as the next police chief of the Pittsburg Police Department.

“ I love this community. It is my honor to carry the torch forward and continue the proud service to Pittsburg that this department has shown time and time again,” said Albanese in a statement released by the City of Pittsburg.

Albanese was selected after executive recruiting firm Bob Murray & Associates to conducted a nationwide search for the next Police Chief. The top five candidates were interviewed by three separate panels: a Community Panel, a Professional Panel of Law Enforcement Executives, and a City Administration Panel.

According to the city, the feedback from all three panels was clear, Captain Steve Albanese will be the City of Pittsburg’s 10th Police Chief.

“I am confident that Captain Albanese is the right person to lead the Pittsburg Police Department into the future. He understands the department’s values and the need for continued community trust and transparency. Captain Albanese possesses the right combination of knowledge, skills, and strong forward-thinking leadership that sets him apart. He will build on what we already have, and he will continue to ensure we are a modernized department committed to professionalism, excellence and trust,” said City Manager Garrett Evans in the announcement release.

Captain Albanese was born in Pittsburg and has worked at the Pittsburg Police Department for the past 25 years. During his 25 year career, Captain Albanese has worked in nearly every aspect of municipal policing. He is well-respected within the Department and in the community. Captain Albanese holds an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from LMC, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Cal State Fresno, and Master’s degree in Leadership from St. Mary’s College.
