On Friday, Pittsburg Police Chief Brian Addington announced he will soon be retiring as police chief o the Pittsburg Police Department. His last day will be May 5, 2022.
In a letter posted to social media, he shared the news. He submitted his letter to the city manager on February 3, 2022.
Addington began his career with the Pittsburg Police Department in October of 1994, including the past 9-years as police chief.
The city will now begin the process of selecting an executive recruitment firm to conduct a nationwide search for our City’s next Police Chief. The process is anticipated to take 3-months.
East Contra Costa County Notes:
- Antioch: the City of Antioch is currently searching for its chief of police for the Antioch Police Department. Chief Tammany Brooks retired in Oct. 2021 from the police department and is now working in Boise, ID.
- Brentwood: Chief Tom Hansen is currently serving as interim assistant city manager. Captains Doug Silva and Tim Herbert will split time as Acting Police Chief in Hansen’s absence.
- Oakley: In January, the Oakley Police Department named Paul Beard its new chief.

it will be hard to replace a police chief that falsified Pittsburg’s homicide statistics to the FBI and kept his job for years.
