Captain Albanese Named Next Pittsburg Police Chief

City of Pittsburg

by ECT

On Tuesday, City of Pittsburg City Manager Garrett Evans announced that Captain Steve Albanese was being promoted to the next Pittsburg Police Chief after Brian Addington retired.

Here is the message released yesterday on social media, although no formal press release has been announced.

Several months ago, Chief Brian Addington announced his intent to retire. Shortly after, the City hired the renowned executive recruiting firm Bob Murray & Associates to conduct a nationwide search for our next Police Chief. Last week the top five candidates were interviewed by three separate panels: a Community Panel, a Professional Panel of Law Enforcement Executives, and a City Administration Panel. The feedback from all three panels was clear, Captain Steve Albanese will be the City of Pittsburg’s 10th Police Chief.

I am confident that Captain Albanese is the right person to lead the Pittsburg Police Department into the future. He understands the department’s values and the need for continued community trust and transparency. Captain Albanese possesses the right combination of knowledge, skills, and strong forward-thinking leadership that sets him apart. He will build on what we already have, and he will continue to ensure we are a modernized department committed to professionalism, excellence and trust.

Captain Albanese was born in Pittsburg and has worked at the Pittsburg Police Department for the past 25 years. During his 25 year career, Captain Albanese has worked in nearly every aspect of municipal policing. He is well-respected within the Department and in the community. Captain Albanese holds an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from LMC, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Cal State Fresno, and Master’s degree in Leadership from St. Mary’s College. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and California Peace Officers Standards and Training Command College.

“It’s an honor to lead the men and women of the Pittsburg Police Department and continue to be a part of this community,” Captain Albanese said. “I am committed to the foundations that have been put in place by Chief Addington over the past ten years and will ensure our department remains responsive to the needs of the community. The Pittsburg Police Department will continue to develop partnerships to reduce crime, provide professional policing, and build trust in the community. I want to thank the men and women of the Pittsburg Police Department for their hard work and dedication to make Pittsburg a community to be proud of. I also want to thank City Manager Garrett Evans, our City Council Members, and the community for trusting me to lead the Police Department.”

Captain Albanese will assume his new role on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Details regarding the ceremony will follow.

Regards,

Garrett Evans
