On Friday, Contra Costa Health Services announced the county’s first death related to coronavirus (COVID-19).
The county will brief the public later Friday morning in a press conference, however, they said the patient died Thursday in a hospital in Contra Costa County. The person was in their 70s and had a pre-existing condition that put them at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, and a history of recent overseas travel.
Contra Costa Health Services will live-stream the media conference on its Facebook page.
As of Thursday, Contra Costa County said it had a total of 42 confirmed cases (as of 12:37 p.m). It is believed that there are several hundred cases throughout the county that have not yet been identified.
The announcement comes on the heals that Governor Gavin Newsom issued a Statewide “Stay At Home” order.
