KCBS: Station Closures, Holiday Fireworks Spark Concerns For Firefighters

by ECT

There is a nice story out of KCBS this afternoon which discusses the concerns of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District about today’s Fourth of July celebrations.

“This first week of July is normally busier than other weeks of the year,” warned East Contra Costa Fire Chief Hugh Henderson. “And with the Fourth of July holiday and everything, we hope that people are going to be safe, fireworks are illegal in Contra Costa County.”

Gil Guerrero, Firefighter Union Vice President,  called the Fourth of July the “day of all days” for fire service calls.

The key about today is ECCFPD is forced to rely on mutual aid, from Contra Costa Fire in Antioch Fire, in the event of major emergency.

The KCBS story also has audio which is about 45-seconds.

I guess with 3 stations, East County will get our money’s worth today since resources are skim.
