Supervisor Federal Glover’s annual turkey drop reached a new plateau when the supervisor, with the help of staff and volunteers, delivered 1,500 turkeys to residents of District V.
“This is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Glover. “No red tape, no bureaucracy, — just giving something to those who might use a little cheering this time of year.”
The number of turkeys is double the number from last year, thanks to the generosity of Calpine Energy, Shell and Phillips 66, the work of scores of community-based organizations and their volunteers.
The frozen birds were delivered to District V senior centers, faith groups and some community-based organizations from Pinole to Antioch. The agencies in turn distributed them to their clientele or used the turkeys to cook hundreds of Thanksgiving dinners for the needy.
