Bethel Island: Driver Airlifted After Overturned Vehicle Crash

At 9:09 pm Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a rollover vehicle crash at Piper Road and Gateway on Bethel Island.

The incident occurred as fire crews were on scene a short distance away on Bethel Island Road for a head-on crash at 8:43 pm. Engine 59 broke from that incident to the second crash with a possible ejection.

Upon arrival, they located an overturned truck with heavy damage. They could not locate the driver, however, they did discover blood in the roadway along with lots of nails.  Both CHP and the sheriffs office were dispatched to the scene to help locate the driver who reportedly fled to the mobile home park.

By 9:34 pm, the driver was located. A medical helicopter was requested.
