by ECT

On Saturday evening, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District announced that they were sending a single resource engine with a team of four to the Mendocino Complex Fire in Mendocino County.

The team was scheduled to report to duty by 7:00 am Sunday. The team consists of Brandon Earhart, Sam Somerhalder Tom LoCoco and Rich Bryan.

According to CALFIRE, the Mendocino Complex Fire was a combination of two fires that had joined. In their 7:11 am update,  the River Fire (Mendocino Complex) had grown to 11,028 acres – 5% contained  while the Ranch Fire (Mendocino Complex) was at 13,242 acres – 5% contained.

According to East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Chief Brian Helmick, he said a unit would have gone Saturday as part of a strike team, but they were still wrapping up the Marsh Fire on Marsh Creek Road which was 100% contained Saturday morning and freed up their units.

There is no estimated time frame when the unit would return back to East Contra Costa Fire.
