In total, 3 vehicles were impounded and 3 arrests were made (2 felony & 1 misdemeanor).

According to CHP,  a large sideshow of approximately 200 people gathered at the CVS/AutoZone parking lot on the corner of Lone Tree Way at Golf Course Road where the task force arrived to and dispersed the gathering before any illegal sideshows began.

CHP highlighted that participating agencies included Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley and Pittsburg police departments.

CHP called the operation a success.

This is the 5th such joint operation that Antioch PD has been spearheading this year. Seems to be working as there have not been as many cars doing stupid crap in Brentwood, Oakley, Antioch, or Pittsburg compared to last summer. Some of these idiots been tearing up Solano and Alameda counties. They are all guilty by association and trying to say it was a “legit car meet”. Showing up in a parking lot then tearing up surrounding streets is not legit. Keep up the work Antioch, Brentwood’s, CHP, Oakley, and Pittsburg PD’s!!!

Who the **** invented side shows?

Jerry Jul 30, 2018 - 1:02 am

It’s not an “invention” … I think people who manufacture tires and brakes started it.

Nick Jul 30, 2018 - 4:57 am

I was being sarcastic. Ghetto mentality started it in the ghetto.

Can Kicker Jul 30, 2018 - 11:20 pm

Dude,

Me and my good old buddies were doing the same things back in the 1970s out in the backwoods – no ‘ghetto’ for hundreds of miles.

Might your ‘hood’ be showing in your comment??

Outstanding. Hit em hard with those towing and impound fees.

Gar Jul 29, 2018 - 11:05 pm

Would you rather they be out on the streets getting involved with gangs, guns, drugs, etc. Or would you rather they spend their time working on their cars to go to gatherings to show off by doing donuts, small races etc. Now I’m not supporting side shows but I am supporting the fact that some of them are just young adults having fun with their car theyve been working on to show off to their other car friends.

Nikki Jul 30, 2018 - 3:22 am

Give them somewhere to legally have fun with their cars.

Nick Jul 30, 2018 - 4:59 am

These same people are in gangs, guns, drugs, etc. Don’t be naïve. You are defending side shows.

Deven Dorton Jul 30, 2018 - 8:41 am

This is the first comment that actually make sense …everybody else commented really was super biased like eachbperson was just ridiculously old and never could never relate to youth like they never was young before…gtfoh!!

Lola Saavedra Jul 30, 2018 - 3:01 pm

Who’s “ridiculously old????” I’m in my mid-20’s and I do not tolerate this crap and neither do a lot of my same-age friends and relatives. FYI, we are young NOW!

Except it was a car meet. Not a sideshow. There was no racing going on, just people in a parking lot talking about cars.

Sharmel Jul 30, 2018 - 8:48 am

A sideshow is an informal demonstration of automotive stunts now often held in vacant lots, and public intersections, most often in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, United States. Side show or car meets I don’t have a problem with but, when it gets out of hand then I have a problem. This is done in all communities I have seen monster trucks with the big wheels, hot rods and people of all backgrounds doing this sort of thing so it’s not isolated to some naive person who says it’s from the Ghetto. But for people to judge a particular group advising they are in gangs, have guns and drugs who are you to judge if you don’t know them personally and know this for sure then shut the hell up sitting behind your stupid computer talking nonsense.

Nick Jul 30, 2018 - 10:28 am

You know damn well side shows are held in the ghetto from ghetto thugs. Wake up and shut the hell up yourself. It’s not done in all communities. Ever see it in Alamo, Danville or Orinda?

Mitch Jul 30, 2018 - 11:45 am

Nick, it actually happens the first Sunday of every month in Danville they have the monthly Cars and Coffee… A car meet 2-3 times as big as the one the other night. I would love to know just how many rich people are ticketed or towed for violations or leaving that show that don’t make the news… I’ve been and wile it rarely makes the news, it’s actually a lot. Police presence at shows like these are welcomed honestly because the true car people are tired of getting a bad reputation from the losers that do sideshow style shenanigans. I live less than a mile from the spot and on my way home I saw the police presence, pulled into the tailgaters lot and spoke to one of the officers without having realized there was a car show occurring and they said “There was a car show happening and they were there making sure it didn’t turn into a side show.” I parked in the tailgaters parking lot and went for a walk through at the show. There was some music playing out of some of the cars but there was no revving or burnouts for the 30-40 minutes I was there. Once the cops towed the first vehicle, the cars decided to leave with the quietest exit I’ve ever heard at a car show. The car show participants assume a level of risk bringing an illegally modified vehicle on the road anywhere so the citations are likely an expected risk (tint, illegal parts, ride height, etc.) of course and so 42 citations at a show like that doesn’t surprise me. But just driving through Antioch on any given day I can count 42+ violations on just economy cars driving around town. From burnt out brake lights to illegal tint, the general public’s disregard for vehicle code is often more highly regarded by those that care about their vehicles and understand the implications of their action on their vehicles. And many of them are happy to know that if an informed officer would pull them over, that they would be 100% legal all the while expressing their own form of art through their vehicle. “Car people” are not always “side show people”… But “side-show people” always ruin it for “car people.” 🙁

Nick Jul 30, 2018 - 2:13 pm

My wife and I attend Cars and Coffee on a regular basis. We don’t live in East County – our daughter lives in Discovery Bay. The only reason I read East County news. Don’t compare car shows to side shows. There’s a HUGE difference.

Cars and Coffee is a mellow crowd. It’s in Blackhawk. If anyone is causing problems, it’s “outsiders.” I agree with you. Side show people do ruin it for car show people.

And, yes – Antioch is ghetto.

Elizabeth Jul 30, 2018 - 3:02 pm

What is we know them personally? What then?

Simonpure Jul 30, 2018 - 3:51 pm

HUH?

Jake Jul 30, 2018 - 9:09 am

They were aloud to be there and had permission to be in the autozone parking lot for a car meet which it was a car meet not a sideshow swear you fucking pigs don’t know what the fuck is going on anymore learn the differences between a car meet and sideshow

Gary Jul 30, 2018 - 11:00 am

Good job Antioch and CHP now catch those that run lights and stop signs. Thank you great job.

Car Guy Jul 30, 2018 - 4:27 pm

I grew up in Walnut Creek, Alamo, Lafayette area and used to do donuts all over (sideshow these days). This was late 70s so I don’t think sideshow is a new phenomenon ….I think these aspiring stunt punks need a safe place to practice their dreams. Look at the bright side, to have a car that will do sideshow you gotta have a job.
The closest drag strip is 2 hours away!
I am not condoning sideshow activity on public streets at all. Most of the time it’s an accident waiting to happen.
I am an old guy, with my high school hot rod, I still like to show off…..when it is SAFE to do so.
just my 2 cents….

Nick Jul 30, 2018 - 8:28 pm

Doing donuts is NOT the same as side shows in the inner city, including side shows in the middle of the freeway (that shuts down traffic). I doubt you brought a gun. I doubt you refused to leave when the cops showed up. You’re talking apples and oranges.

Mood Jul 30, 2018 - 11:32 pm

They do not refuse to leave! Most of the time they get trapped/block/and bum rushed by the cops! That’s why there are so many city departments rushing (1) parking lot at once! Duhhh… The POLICE cause the danger, the fleeing, the chases… These kids are out here scared of being the next hashtag or justified death by uniform!

Thats only car shows. Its not side shows. Theres big difference

Aj Aug 6, 2018 - 11:15 pm

SERIOUSLY, IF THEY HAD GUNS AND DRUGS THEN THEY WOULD HAVE HAD WAAAAAAAYYYYYY MORE THAN 3 ARRESTS!!!! I swear some people get on my damn nerves when they dont think before they post. So ignorant

Nick Aug 6, 2018 - 11:51 pm

Like your reply isn’t extremely annoying. All caps, multiple punctuation, swearing, etc. Get an education and quit being so ignorant. Learn how to write.
